christie smith is live. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. this is certainly not the news anyone wanted to hear. hayward police coming out and saying they believe the missing nursing student was likely killed in the kaiser permanente parking garage where she was last seen. they believe this was very likely someone who intentionally went after the nursing student, that was not a stranger jumping out of a bush. police conducted a number of searches in the east bay hills. while they aren't releasing details, based on evidence collected from the garage, they believe she was killed. >> during the course of the discussions, during the course of questioning a number of people, we have had persons of interest come up in this case. whether or not we focused on one individual person of interest or not, i can't say at this time. >> reporter: she vanished may 27th. she told colleagues she was going on break to get some items from her car. when she failed to return, they got worried and called police. her family has been critical of the hayward police dep

now, laura has the top stories. of course, we are covering the sad death of two san francisco firefighters. they will be laid to rest today. 53-year-old anthony and 48-year-old vincent died last week from injuries they received fighting a fire. it broke out on june 2nd in the diamond heights neighborhood in san francisco. a flashover overtook them while they were in the home. their funeral takes place in san francisco this afternoon. firefighters are coming to the bay area to pay tribute to the fallen firefighters. damian trujillo is live with how they are giving their support during this trying time. it is certainly a brotherhood. >> reporter: it is. firefighters from across the area are gathering at this old fire station on third street south of at&t park. this is where they get their assignments. the men and women fill in across san francisco. all of san francisco firefighters can attend the services this afternoon. crowds packed st. mary's cathedral for a memorial in honor of tony and vincent. they were fighting

hello, i'm laura evans in tonight for maureen and will. it happened this morning on indian head highway in oxon hill. the driver of a gray mazda was traveling northbound on the highway south of wilson bridge drive. it was sometime after 3:00 a.m. when he was rear-ended by a black gmc yukon. the impact caused the mazda to go off the road and hit a tree. >> two female passengers in that gray mazda were ejected from the vehicle. the black gmc yukon stopped as a result of the damages on the vehicle. the driver of the gray mazda dieds a result of his injuries. the two female passengers who were ejected from the vehicle also died from their injuries. >> two of the victims, 53-year- old eugene johnson and 52-year- old gwendolyn denbiof manassas. the driver of the yukon has been arrest the and police say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. >>> and new developments in the search for a man who disappeared on friday and may have wound up in the triphiladelphia river. he and two others were swimming in the reservoir near route 97 when one wen

good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. this is going to be a big day for the mccourts. seems every time we talk about them we're talking about deadlines. yesterday the judge said he wanted to announce there was an impasse in the divorce, now he is saying he's going to give them a little more time to try to figure out what they might be able to do together so they would be able to avoid the impasse itself. so today at 8:30 they will be back in court. when they left yesterday, frank's attorney said they had a deal. jaime's attorney said no, not so fast. at the last minute the judge said i'll give you 24 hours so last night they spent a lot of time as they did earlier this week trying to figure out what they could do to make it work for them. and to make major league baseball happy. a settlement could likely include frank mccourt getting ownership and jaime some sort of payout. it could be a moot point if frank loses the team to major league baseball which is investigating the team's finances. the mccourts have to come to som

good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. she was last seen on may 27th. here it is monday june 6th. simply put, family and friends were getting frustrated with the slow pace of the investigation. the 26-year-old was last seen when she went out to her car during break in hayward. her family believes ha hayward police don't have the staff to take it on. they didn't search her apartment until four days after she disappeared. it would take two weeks to get results back from the search of her car. in a statement, the family says, we have been assured they have personnel working around the clock and only six personnel are assigned to the team. of those, three recently went on vacation. the hayward police department said they contacted the fbi early on and utilized some of their reserve. they served search warrants in the case and are committed to solving it. >>> thank you very much, christie. >>> now to the peninsula where a 3-month-old baby is dead caught in the cross fire after gunmen targeted people leaving a baby shower. east palo alto police fired as they
