i would like to invite laura li to come up to the podium. for those of you who have not heard, she has been embedded in the history of our city and particular the city of the struggles of the chinese-american community. she came to seven cisco 1949 as a young immigrant; she graduated from galileo high school. she joined the chinese-american democratic youth league, at progressive organization within the chinese american community. i know it is hard for us to appreciate this today but at that time, chinese-american organizations were subjected to surveillance and harassment of the federal government, by the fbi as well elements of the chinese american community. laura has been and was a heroine in furthering these causes in the fight. ever since those days she has continued to engage in progressive causes and community service. she has been involved in significant groundbreaking research into chinese-american history. as an aside, she supported her late husband mark li, after whom the chinatown branch library is named. laura's name also adorn

"today in the bay's" arturo santiago has video of this wild high-speed chase. good morning, arturo. >> good morning, jon. the suspect is still at-large. police are actively looking for him. they just cleared the scene here on campus at san francisco state university. that includes the stolen cab. we do have video of the suspect. police said going after the suspect. this started just after 2:00 this morning in the south of market area. san francisco police located a stolen cab. that driver took off leading officers on a short chase through surface streets and then the suspect got on southbound highway 280. at that time, the california highway patrol took over the chase which reached speeds of 100 miles an hour. the driver of the stolen cab went all the way to pacifica, turned around and ended up on the san francisco state university campus.

i met laura and susan who bake cookies for cancer.some time with them i understood why it was a labor of love. every day, this mother/daughter duo are elbow deep in mixing bowls, running the gourmet ginger cookie company, susan snaps. laura and susan do everything by hand, from the cranking and baking to the packaging and selling. it's a small company with a big mission. at 22 years old, susan was diagnosed with a type of cancer called hodgkin's lymphoma right before her college graduation. this was a diagnosis her mother knew all too well. laura's older sister, also named susan, passed away at the young age of 28 from that very disease. if that wasn't enough, laura's husband had also been diagnosed with cancer. >> when you look at how many different hats you've worn with cancer, a sister, a wife, a mom, was there a point where you thought, seriously? like couldn't we share the wealth? like this is too much. >> it can be very lonely. and i am very, i like to you know, be able to take charge and feel like we've got it under control. >>
