good morning to you, sam and laura. the building in question right beyond the fire trucks here is an abandoned office building, used to hold a dentist office and some other offices and businesses in had there. this is situated in a residential area. a lot of homes around here. you have this two-story building that attaches to a single story that caught fire around 2:20 this morning. the two ladders that were dumping water on the building shut off. that's a sign of progress. they definitely had the fire contained. unfortunately, they did have to go on the defensive pretty much after they arrived this morning about 15 minutes after they arrived because the fire was so intense and about 45 minutes after they arrived they had to go and be on the defensive, just keeping the fire contained which they were able to do. i did speak with a couple of people who live in the area who said they did hear fireworks last night. but according to the fire department, they do not believe that fireworks was the cause. they believe it might

. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. on board the plane, pilot and two children and adult woman taking off just before 1:00 yesterday afternoon from the sonoma skypark here behind me. their plane almost immediately in distress. witness we spoke with said that the small single engine sr-22 ascended to around 75 feet. the engine sputtered an cut out twice before the plane crashed in the field about 1,000 feet from the airport. you can see in the video from sky ranger, the pilot deployed an emergency parachute to slow the plane's descent a. number of people witnessing the crash ran to the site the try to help the family. >> when i got there, there was a little hand out of the back window so i thought, oh my gosh, somebody's alive in there. let's see what we can do. >> reporter: the good samaritans were able to pry the boy and girl out of the plane. both were air lifted to oakland children's hospitals and are being treated for seriously injuries. the woman also badly hurt and being treated at a local hospital here in sonoma.

good morning, laura and sam. the four-alarm fire here at the waverly construction site has been out for a couple of hours, but there are safety concerns, a lot of hot spots. that's why you see the oakland fire department still spraying water on the site. and the other concerns, the construction crane you see is scorched. they're supposed to be flying a drone to help determine what, if any, danger there is to that crane falling down. osha and the crane operator also expected here to figure out how to safely dismantle that crane so it no longer poses a threat. the fire was so tremendous, so rapid in its movement, oakland firefighters took a defense si posture almost immediately after their 4:30 a.m. arrival. establishing a perimeter water line while the flames consumed the apartment construction. the danger of collapse was real. watch the bottom right side of your tv screen. part of the building crumbled onto the road before, fortunately missing firefighters. the radiant heat was incredibly powerful. people could f
