kris? >> reporter: hi there, marcus and laura. where we go from here, if there is a violent offender, who is also undocumented, that person is to be released and will not be -- the county many not be notifying i.c.e. that will be going forward, the same policy we have had up until this point. that's despite the fact that law enforcement has been asking the county board of supervisors to change that policy. all law enforcement agencies in the bay area signed a letter stating they wanted to change the policy except for public service. the pressure has been growing. it hit a critical point with a san jose woman who was killed by a violent convict who was not held for deportation despite several requests. santa clara county released him. l.a. county released him as well. they said they want to stay out of the courts. it's a decision that also is frustrating the san jose police chief. >> it keeps of trying to figure out who is documented, who is not documented, whether or not we should be even keeping that kind of information here. it'

kris? >> reporter: hi there, laura and marcus. overnight the san jose police officers association, their union essentially said this fight to change the policy in santa clara county is not over. the jail will now continue releasing inmates who are undocumented without notifying immigration and customs enforce. regardless of whether they have violent records or federal hold requests. it hit a critical point with bambi larson, who was alleged killed by a violent convict not held for deportation despite multiple requests. all south bay law enforcement, exempt for sunnyvale, signed a letter asking the county for the change. the police chief is very frustrated. supervisor dave cortese said he needs to keep the county out of the courts. >> it keeps us out of this business of trying to figure out who is documented, who is not documented and whether or not we should be keeping that kind of information here. it's not our business. >> this is not just a local issue. it's a national issue. and i know that i probably speak for most major city

kris? >> reporter: hi there, laura. teachers expect to be on the picket lanes at james logan behind me at 8:30 and other campuses aroundhe new haven school district at 7:30 this morning. while it seems that the teachers union has made some concession, the district says it's not a concession that they consider a legal offer. i want to show you what the latest is here on this story. according to the union, they lowered their ask to just a 3% pay increase, less than they had been asking before. the district said that would cost the district more than the union's last offer, which violates state bargaining law. on wednesday, it is supposed to be the last day of school. logan high school's graduation is scheduled for june 15th. the superintendent says that is going to happen as scheduled regardless of what the strike situation is. this is day 10 of the teachers strike impacting 11 different schools. 600 teachers are in the district. they have been at an impasse with the district primarily overpay. tony thurmond joined the session last week. >> the strike plan is still in place. we will be back on the strike lines tomorrow u
