laura anthony has details from the alameda county food bank in oakland. >> reporter: the empty shelves it all these days at alameda county food bank. for the first time in long time they had to go without dloovgs of crucial items, like canned vegetables and frozen meats. the reason they haven't delivered commodities to oakland for two months. >> we only received an item the end of july. we are experiencing a a shortage that our clients are feeling. >> normally they would have about one million pounds of usda food on the shelf. now they are down to about half of that. it's the same story in contra costa which rely on usda deliveries. it's not clear if the food is being diverted or not being made available due to the drought in the midwest. but the reality is coming as demand and food and the counties remains extremely high. >> more families turn themselves to the food bank. we are a lifeline to them. so in alameda county the need is growing we are serving one in six residents. the majority of which are children. >> to offset the shortage, they are appealing to the public asking them to

laura anthony was the first with the story. >> my heart is already broken. and it will stay broken but i want to be able to have that. >>reporter: she can't shake the sad needs and worry. >> that is all i have of my baby. all. please don't throw it away. don't diskairtd. they open up the drawers and dumped everything. >>reporter: wednesday night her antioch home ransacked and burglarize. tv. electronic. jewelry. video game system. her kids christmas presents. all carried away in the darkness of night. it's a crime the single mother and her 3 kids interrupted. when they came home just after 10:00 p.m. from a family outing. >> this is where they came in. they broke the window. >>reporter: found a kitchen window shattered. sliding glass door wide open. burglars even rummage through the 3-year-old son toy box. the worst part is ails when she looked in her own closet she realized the burglars had taken the urn that contained her late baby ashes. >> the baby's urn was in a jewelry box right here. >>reporter: this is what the urn looks like. it contains the remains

for tonight from laura anthony. >>reporter: this cell phone video shows oakland couple coming face-to-face with a gun wielding suspect. none too happy he's being recorded. incident started at 4:00 p.m. monday. when the couple was driving on hyde street near foothill. they saw a nissan ultima with two men inside driving erratically crossing over to the wrong side of the street. at one point the suspect pull up to the couple pull out a gun and demand they hand over the phone. couple was able to speed away but only for a short distance. >> when they reached the 4700 block of foothill l and they pulled over and stopped unbee known as to them one of the suspect opened the back door of the car and got in the car at gun point he demanded that cell phone containing that video. the husband was able to tl push him out of the car and directed his wife to hit the gas and get out of there. >>reporter: the couple got away but not before the suspect fired several shots hitting their car. victim then shared their video with police

laura with the "huffington post." my question is, there's a lot of -- [inaudible] a lot of the conservative women groups, particularly concerned women for america and susan b. anthony list, came out after the election and said that it was a mistake for republican candidates to dismiss abortion and birth control and women's issues in general and that if they had been more outspoken on social issues that it might have helped them. i don't understand how that could happen because it seemed like every time they did open that you are mouths on social issues, everybody jumped on them and it didn't serve them. my question is, is there anything they could have done differently? or is it just that they have the wrong position? >> ralph reid said in direct contrast to char lean yost and all those people, said, we didn't leave any voters on the table. we had the best turnout operation we ever had, we contacted them, we did everything. so i think if they don't make that case, though, then they become increasingly irrelevant. so their they're guarding territory. there's no evidence, there's no exit poll, actually support for safe, legal abortion in this country is strengthened.
