"today in the bay's" bob redell is live where this horrific scene really came to an end. do they know what happened here, bob? what was the motive? >> don't know the motive and don't have any suspect information or even a suspect vehicle description. we're at the oakmont substation for the oakland police department here and this is where the party bus ended up, the black bus there on the left side you can see four windows shot out, the driver presumably ended up here looking for help. this was supposed to be a fun night for a group of young women in the age range of 19, 20, possibly 21 years old out celebrating one of their birthdays. chp confirmed two of those people are dead, have been shot and killed and a family member confirmed to us one of those people was a 19-year-old girl who had a child who was going to be turning 3 this upcoming weekend. they were driving a

"today in the bay's" pete suratos joins us live from the scene in san jose this morning and pete, what are you hearing about the officer's conditions? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura. the latest update we're getting from san jose police on their twitter account the injuries to the officer are non-life-threatening at this point. we are on suncrest avenue. you can see a san jose police cruiser, they're keeping us about a mile away from where the scene took place on suncrest avenue and pirri lane. san jose police say an officer was struck roughly around 12:30 a.m. by a car while outside of his marked police unit. a suspect is in custody, and we are going to get more details on what led to the traffic collision. here is a witness speaking to one of our crews on the scene explaining what they saw. >> all of a sudden we see an ol

i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. some breaking news that we're covering in redwood city for you, busy el camino real is closed after a traffic death. let's check in with "today in the bay's" kris sanchez live at the scene this morning. kris, what are police telling you? >> reporter: they're not saying much right now but this is a really sad way to start the morning. we know that at least one person was killed by a driver and we're not clear at this point whether or not that driver stopped cooperating with the investigation or whether they took off. we want to show you where this is happening at the corner of el camino real and lincoln, about a block from where we are. el camino real is closed between maple and roosevelt. this is a busy thoroughfare so you have to find a reroute. at this point witnesses have been talking with police so perhaps they have some information there. along the thoroughfare there are a lot of businesses, a lot of different kinds of businesses, car dealership, fast food restaurants and whatnot

i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. right to meteorologist kari hall. she, of course, has more on the breaking drought news. what are we looking at right now? >>> it's concerning to see this. we are looking back at last week. we knew it was bad then as we saw much of the bay area shaded in red which includes an extreme drought and the south county in a severe drought. basically the red has spread into the central valley and we know that the sierra has seen the snow melt happen. it's drained into parts of the central valley, into the delta and back out into the ocean. we don't have a lot of reserves as we see levels dropping as we now start to enter some of our driest months of the year. we'll talk about our forecast ahead and the concern about wildfires coming up in a few minutes. marcus and laura? >> certainly concerning there. >>> we are a step closer to returning to normalcy. this move is something we haven't seen in a long time so the last remaining businesses will be allowed to open their doors. other businesses al

i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we have word of a small grass fire overnight on mt. diablo, burning five acres mere southgate road and scenic boulevard on the alamo side of the mount tains. firefighters stop the fire's progress. >>> also overnight in southern california in santa barbara a fast-moving fire threatened homes and a television station. this shows the fire spreading up t.d. hill in santa barbara. it's a home base for keyt. it's there on the upper right of your screen that you see there. firefighters posted the video as well as flames that damaged one home but by the overnight hours, conditions improved and they managed to get the upper hand with all evacuations now lifted. the fire burned about 30 acres. so far authorities are not indicating if they know how that fire started. >>> looking to the vaccine rollout, this morning it's already looking more and more like a booster rollout that we may all soon need maybe even sooner than we think. i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington.hether it's terrific tuesday or taco tuesday for you we have a look at the forecast. kari, we've been dealing with dry conditions and another red flag warning? >> yes, we will still have that concern that any fires that develop could spread very quickly. take a look at this red flag warning we have still continuing for solano county, and much of the central valley. also the north and east bay mountains under a critical fire danger for today as the wind picks as we go through the wind speed forecast, we are getting a bit more of a westerly wind that's coming off of the ocean, it brings in slightly cooler temperatures and higher humidity. we are not going to see those high northerly wind gusts that we saw yesterday, so it is looking a little bit better in terms of the weather fire conditions as we go into today. we'll continue to monitor that as well as the humidity and some cooling temperatures in our forecast, that's coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you. >>> the breaking news we ha

"today in the bay's" cierra johnson joins us live in san francisco. how did the district finally reach its decision? >> reporter: good morning, laura. the decision was made over the weekend and if you think back to your senior year of high school, i think back to mine and every moment seems so precious, the last track meet, the last homecoming dance. the class of 2021 in san francisco unified school district gets to come back to their school to walk the halls at least for a couple of days. as i mentioned that deal involves the oldest students in the san francisco unified school district, solidified over the weekend, in all about 500 high school seniors are expected to return to the classroom. it won't be like what we saw with some of the youn

. >> and i'm laura garcia. not just the drought. we're also watching the forecast very closely, fire danger continues to loom, we in fact have a live look outside at walnut creek this morning, where the sun has arrived. so meteorologist kari hall is tracking our forecast this morning. >> yes, we still have this high fire danger, we've seen the winds whipping up at times, and as we take a look at exactly where we do have a red flag warning it's solano county and much of the central valley. for our north bay and east bay hills we have an elevated fire danger again today because it will be breezy and the humidity is still very low, as we take a look at our relative humidity during the middle of the afternoon today, it's still going to be at about the 20% to 30% range for much of the bay area, which is pretty dry, but we've seen it drier in the past few days, meaning we are making some improvement in our fire weather conditions. i'll be watching that, we'll talk about a cooldown in our forecast in a few minutes. >> thanks so much, kari.

i'm marcus washington. >> you sure do, i'm laura garcia. with a look at our forecast for this tuesday morning. here's meteorologist kari hall. pretty terrific? >> good morning. i want to get you ready for work in the east bay, as we get a look at our forecast for fremont and even though we've seen a few clouds passing by, our temperatures are milder, in the mid-50s and it's going to warm up very slowly today and actually be a couple of degrees cooler than yesterday so here's a look at our microclimates, high temperatures today reaching into the upper 70s for the north bay. low 80s for the inland east bay and south county and mid-70s for san jose. we'll talk more about our temperatures going up and down in a few minutes. mike, how is it look fog are the commute? >> folks on 101 will be delayed. while that is a hassle a live look a problem because it is an injury crash blocking all but one of your northbound lanes at woodside road or just high of there and you see folks exiting off at marsh and willow, sending more folks to el camino or 280.

"today in the bay's" bob redell arrived on the scene. what is the latest out there, bob? >> reporter: good morning to you, laura and marcus. when we last saw you, we were in the parking lot and moved up about a mile into the hills so you can see where the firefighters are at. you can see the main issue for them is and that's the steeper it terrain. this is the mission peak regional preserve. they're in the clouds where the flashing lights are, the two-acre wildfire is burning started around 4:20. i talked to the battalion chief 30 minutes ago one of the flanks was surrounded, a good sign. still trying to get around the other flank. the challenge is the accessibility. they're area to get to the vehicles closer to the fire but they have to hoof it in. four fremont fire excuse me, three fremont fire vehicles up there and i saw a second cef vehicle, five vehicles in there

i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. we're watching your forecast as things cool down a bit, but there is plenty of heat to go around again for you today. a live look this morning. meteorologist kari hall's forecast is coming up for you in eight minutes. cierra johnson where two asian-american women were stabbed. what are investigators saying? >> reporter: yes, good morning. those two women, one 85 and one 65 years old were simply waiting for the bus at fourth and market as mentioned, a busy intersection where an individual came up behind them and stabbed them. here's what we know about their injuries. an official with the city says one of the women was slashed across the back and elbow, another through the arm and to the chest. that woman needed surgery to treat her injuries. both were transported to san francisco general. police were able to locate a weapon and using security cameras in the area, were able to locate the 55-year-old san francisco man suspected in the stabbings, about two hours later they found him on th

. >> and i'm laura garcia. we start this morning with word of a small brush fire overnight it happened on mt. diablo. it burned about five acres sneer saut gate road and scenic boulevard along the alamo side of the mountain. firefighters say they've stopped that fire's progress. they jumped on it pretty fast. also overnight in southern california there was a big square in the city of santa barbara as a fast-moving fire will threatened a home and actually a tv station. this fire was burning up the hill there, they call it tv hill in santa barbara. the home base for keyt. it's right there as you see, it was a pretty intense fire for some time. firefighters posted the video, flames damaged one home in that area as well but by the overnight hours, conditions improved and they finally managed to get the upper hand with all evacuations eventually lifted. the fire burned about 30 acres, so far authorities not indicating how this fire potentially started. >>> now to the vaccine rollout for you and this morning it's alr

. >> and i'm laura garcia. let's get to "today in the bay's" kris sanchez in redwood city this morning for the breaking news we're covering. kris, a certain discovered dead, a lot of questions with this one. what are you finding out? >> reporter: right, this is a person who was found dead in the roadway, so we believe this person was struck and killed by a car. redd i would city police are not giving us a lot of details. you can see behind me it is still an active crime scene. we are at the intersection of el camino real and roosevelt. the crash seemed to have happened closer to lincoln. what you need to know is el camino is closed between maple and roosevelt, where we are this morning. we believe this was a vehicle versus pedestrian crash. we don't know whether or not any driver stopped to cooperate or whether any driver has contacted redwood city police. what we have behind us is a lot of different businesses, none that would have been open around the 2:30 businesses, we suspect there is going to be surveilla
