"today in the bay's" marla tellez is there live by the crash scene with new details on the investigation. good morning, marla. >> reporter: laura, good morning. within the last 15 minutes this accident scene has been completely cleared from northbound 280. so now all lanes are open. one lane had been shut down since 10:50 last night. that's when chp first got the call for this deadly crash. we'll try to give you a look at the tree involved in this deadly crash. this call came in to 10:52 to chp, a solely vehicle crash. it did involve a party bus. it is a chevy van converted into a party bus. chp officers saying this driver for some reason lost control, veered off and hit this tree right here, slammed into that tree, went down the embankment, about a 20-foot embankment where it landed. the impact is so harsh that t

"today in the bay's" marry ann favro joins us live. >> reporter: good morning. this fire is stubborn and unpredictable. fire crews worked overnight, and they are making progress, but still the fire remains just 20% contained. many of the people who were forced to evacuate came here to this american red cross shelter in sonora last night. they stayed on cots. it gave them peace of mind to know they are safe and so are their pets. the rim fire is the seventh largest wildfire in california history and has scorched 288 square miles. this fire is less than six mimes from the city of tuolumne. fire crews have been busy establishing burn lines to prevent the flame from reaching populated areas. so far the fire's destroyed 101 structures, 31 homes. this morning, as soon as it's light out, helicopte

i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm jon kelley. in the east bay this morning a desperate 911 call from one girl about her parents fighting ends with officers shooting and killing her father. late last night hayward police showed up to an apartment complex on tennyson road not too far from his spearian boulevard telling police her father had a knife and was threatening to kill her mother. when officers got to that amendment, they ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he reportedly refused and police say he lunged at officers with a knife. that's when one officer fired, shooting the suspect at least once. the man died at the hospital. the other three people in that apartment, we can tell you they were not hurt. our bob redell is heading the that scene right now. he'll have a live update in about half hour. >>> it is 5:01. a bay area driver who hit and killed a bicyclist in pleasanton faces murder charges because of something he tweeted out. 18-year-old cody hall was charged with murder yesterday and is being held without bail. poli

i'm jon kelley. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon.his morning school is in session for students who survived a massive tornado in moore, oklahoma. the twister tore through two schools almost three months ago killing seven students and 18 others. today those schools are being rebuilt in the oklahoma city suburb of moore. as construction goes on, surviving students have classes at another school and a church that survived the tornado. plaza towers elementary school which took that direct hit from that twitter. good morning, jay. >> reporter: good morning, laura. for many this spot is the best representation of the heart of the devastation here, plaza towers elementary destroyed, as you talked about, the sevenzy2 crosses behind me representing the students that were killed during that storm. their friends are going back to class for the first time"gí tod and teachers getting the makeshift rooms ready in temporary facilities, making sure they closely resemble what they had before the storms. brier wood elementary, the other school that wa

i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm jon kelley. happening right now, we want to get to this, more than 105,000 acres scorch outside yosemite. firefighters are struggling to get any sort of containment on this one. the upper hand has been completely illusive. one percent of the fire is contained right now. that is down from 5% that had been declared as of wednesday. about 2500 buildings are in danger of burning. highway 120, one of the three main roads into yosemite still completely shut down. the governor now declaring a state of emergency in that area to try and free up the money and resources to help 1,800 firefighters already on the ground. at least nine buildings we can tell you are destroyed. smoke and ash forcing a lot of the schools in that area to shut down to be very safe. the fire has forced the cancellation of the popular strawberry music festival. the five-day bluegrass event was supposed to be held on labor day weekend. but now things are in flux down there. for more on the fire, let's get a check with our meteorologis

i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm jon kelley. happening right now, a wildfire on the outskirts of yosemite still burning out of control this morning with about '202500 buildings now threatened by those flames. we the tell you the fire has grown to 25 square miles and has now forced the state to shut down route 120 going into the park. this morning lower bay area firefighters are being called in to help battle these flames. "today in the bay's" christie smith is live in san mateo county which has already sent crews down to help fight the wildfire. christie, this is just one bay area agency sending firefighters out to help out at yosemite. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. i wish i had better news for you. but the rim fire has jumped a containment line and seems to be growing in nearly every direction. as you said, bay area firefighters are helping out. alameda county sent about 22 firefighters from throughout the county. also san mateo county office of emergency services, their fire department sent out crews, and also within

. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. can united nations say snipers targeted a convoy of a chemicals weapons inspection team in syria. we have new video overnight showing the team leaving from their hotel in damascus. we're told they were all wearing body armor. they left in seven suvs and planned to visit a site in the suburbs of damascus where an alleged chemical weapons attack happened last week. the u.n. says the team was deliberately shot at. so far the snipers have not been identified. this morning syrian president bashar assad deny his troops used chemical weapons. the united states says there's little doubt that assad's regime is responsible for the attack. >>> happening right now, just an out-of-control wildfire gaining ground in yosemite creeping ever so close to buildings, prompting evacuations and threatening san francisco's power grid and water supply. this morning, a total of about 225 square miles already charred. that vufly, for reference here, roughly the size of the city of chicago. 5500 buildings right

. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. we have a developing story in san jose where a man is recovering from serious injuries this morning after jumping off a freeway overpass trying to run away from police. it happened on the 280 connector ramp to 101 next to pal stadium. "today in the bay's" marla tellez live with more on this really bizarre incident. >> it really is. we're standing on the on-ramp to northbound 280 from king road. we're right next to pal stadium. if you know the area, you know where we are this morning t. on-ramp reopened within the last hour after pliz had a busy night cleaning up the mess left behind after the man jumped from way above. this is the connector to 101 at the 260-880 interchange. the man jumped as he was trying to get away from police and landed plenty of feet below on the on-ramp below. the sand you see here is to cover up his blood. pretty gruesome. at one point police using a tape measure to figure out the distance, estimated to be about three to four stories high. it started before 9:0

. >> i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. we begin with breaking news out of texas where a violent shooting spree kills four people and leaves four others including two boys hurt this morning. police say one man now behind bars is responsible for two shootings, one in dallas and one just seven miles away in desoto. police say the gunman opened fire inside a home in dallas about 10:30 last night. when police got to the scene, they found four people with gunshot wounds. two were pronounced dead right there. authorities say the same man fled to nearby desoto where he opened fire wounding two others. lerlene smith says her daughter and granddaughter are among the dead. >> i came back in, went to mia's room, and that's where i found her mother lying in the doorway. everything he was throwing. i don't know what he was doing. hopefully they didn't suffer long. >> so sad. smith says the shooter was her daughter's boyfriend. he was arrested at that second scene. no word yet on the condition of the other four victims. >>> oakland polic

. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. new this morning, investigators looking into the cause of a deadly party bus crash. one person died at the scene. when officers arrived, they say the driver was nowhere to be found. the crash happened late last night on northbound 280 south of alpine road off-ramp. today in the bay's marla tellez live at the scene with an update on that investigation. good morning, marla. >>>. >> reporter: good morning. chp officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward as they try to figure out what went wrong. we're standing right at the alpine road portola valley exit in unincorporated santa clara county. the headlights are heading northbound. the accident happened just down the way. chp officers say that's when the party bus lost control, slammed into a tree and rolled down the embankment. this happened just before 11:00 last night. the crash cleared just over an hour ago. video we have shows the mangled mess that was once the party bus. the right side of the van was s

i'm marla tellez in nor laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm jon kelley. happy to have you along. happening right now, an out of control wildfire growing quickly in southern california near the town of banning, about 20 miles west of palm springs where temperatures there are expected to get into the high 80s and 90s in some areas with the winds blowing hard to about 20 miles per hour. we can tell you right now one person has been airlifted to a hospital suffering burns. two firefighters so far have been injured and dozens of buildings are damaged or destroyed right now. we can tell you also 1500 people in the area are now under evacuation orders. let's give you a live look from our chopper down there over that wildfire. more than 500 firefighters on scene now working, battling very hard trying to get a handle on this blaze along with five helicopters there and five air tankers. we also learned crews from san mateo county and santa cruz county have gone down to help fight the fire. there is no word on exactly what has caused the fire. >>> now to breaking news in texas where an over
