. >> and i'm laura garcia-cannon. new video this morning of what was left behind after an overnight fire. broke out in san jose near interstate 280 and bird avenue. crews headed to the scene about 1:30 this morning after getting calls of trees on fire. a few trees burned along with debris. the fire was knocked down quickly. no word yet on a cause. >>> now this comes as san jose firefighters are coming from an exhausting day yesterday. two brush fires had crews scrambling to gain the upper hand overnight. just six miles away, much larger fire crept dangerously close to homes in the hills above the neighborhood. we have reporters there this morning. here you see some of the overnight scene, some of the folks waking up to the fire hoess and caution tape. it was a close call for about a dozen homes. no homes burned. started it about 1:30 yesterday afternoon. and you had that dry, you had the wind and the dry brush causing four alarm fire. the helicopters and ground crews used to fight that fire. two were injured. we haven

"today in the bay's" kris sanchez live at san jose city hall. protesters are going to start gathering at noon and start handing out coupons. >> reporter: yes, they want to hand out vouchers for folks to get free medical marijuana evaluations, just one of the ways they're trying to make for a very lively gathering out here, outside of san jose city hall in anticipation of next week. what could be shut down of the majority of the pot clubs here in the city. the city now has some of the strictest rules regarding marijuana dispensaries including where they can set up shop and the hours they can keep. and the regulations are what dispensary owner says are unrealistic. among the requirements, they must grow pot on site and in santa clara county and around the clock security. no one under the age of 18 is allowed in and no one can use pot in the store. in addition to gathering for

." >>> good morning, and thanks for joining us, i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm scott mcgrew. we have breaking news, we begin with that. police have closed off a part of downtown san jose as they investigate a deadly stabbing. crime scene tape can be seen near south market and park. that's near plaza de cesar chavez. dark shore is -- derek shore is there, what do you know? >> reporter: this is the 22nd homicide in san jose so far this year after a man died. i'm going to step out of the way and you can see the large police presence here at south mission and park avenue here in downtown san jose. according to police, this all started with a 911 call, just about 2:15 a.m., reporting that five to six people were attacking someone near plaza de cesar chavez. by the time police arrived, they would find a man stabbed. he would later die. we do not know if the suspects at this point are in custody. homicide detectives are responding to the scene and will, of course, be giving us updates as we get them. south market avenue is blocked off at this hour. southbound, at least

laura garcia-cannon is off. a bay area center is calling for a criminal probe on construction problems on the new bay bridge. nannette miranda is live on the bridge, this state senator is saying caltrans knew that that work was subpar. >> reporter: absolutely. new senate report is expected to be out this week. and in it it'll apparently show that caltrans knowingly accepted is up standard work -- is up standard work. a democrat from concord running for congress says the findings are so bad, he's calling for a krul investigation into the project's management and construction problems. he wants the california attorney general or u.s. attorney to look into this. according to the sacramento bee, the report is also expected to confirm the transportation agency knowingly accepted flawed and potentially hazardous work by a firm in china that welded much of the new span's roadway and tower. the $6.5 billion bridge opened last fall after years of delay and $5 billion above original estimates. the remaining issues include
