watching that statement was laura trevelyan in washington. carefull calibrated. did you assess what she had to say? laura: yes. carefully calibrated but the key phrase that she believes americans of all backgrounds deserve supreme court that is independent and interprets our constitution and laws as they were written. now, that, as you were saying is clearly a pitch that she is an originalist, someone who believes in the constitution as it was written, a signal to conservatives that she is someone who will take issue with the more expansive interpretation of the constitution. one, for example, that protects a broad array of americans rights. when it comes to a-- abortion rights and expansive role of the state, conservatives hope that she will be someone who will vote for a more restrictive agenda, and on november 10, the affordable care act comes in front of the supreme court. she has criticized justice roberts for his vote in upholding obamacare a few years back. and, clearly conservative republicans are hoping she will be part of a vote to strike down that act.

hello, i'm laura trevelyan in washington. christian fraser is in london.ays it's uncovered an extraordinary plot to abduct michigan's democratic governor, gretchen whitmer. this spring, the governor was criticised by the president and his supporters when she imposed tight restrictions, to try and limit the spread of coronavirus. the fbi says the six men involved in the plot, had conducted surveillance on ms whitmer‘s holiday home and planned to take her hostage before november's presidential election. their goal was to try her for treason. the men belonged to a milita called the michigan wolverine watchmen. on their website, they describe themselves as a well armed citizens group, formed "to stand against tyranny, and anyone or anything that threatens to undermine our form of government". the fbi says it discovered the plot on social media where several members had talked about murdering "tyra nts" or "taking" a sitting governor. two agents had worked their way into the group. the district attorney andrew birge said the plot was at an advanced stage. money
