as far as our records show, all of them were collected from laurel hill cemetery where laurel heights is now. in october of 2009, doyle drive began its construction project. just south of the toll plaza within several hundred meters of the south end of the golden gate bridge on a ser pen teen outcropping. a lot of vegetation was cleared. this exposed a wonderful plant which was noticed by a young botanist. this was considered extinct manzanita. in the middle of a billion dollar construction project. the manzanita was moved about a mile to a new spot for its own protection. it's best if that location is kept secret. i look at remaining natural habitats as the original skin of the earth. and there's very little of that left in san francisco. and to actually find one of the anchor and key plants that originally existed in san francisco and to be able to save it meant a lot to anybody who works with plants and the environment. as they prepared the plant for moving, they had to clip off some of the edges. all that material was given to five different botanical institutions to propagate fro

i did have a conversation with laurel about this item. i do not plan to support the resolution, but i do want to explain why. i think that none of us here would like to see any of the proposition 10 reserves being taken away. clearly for us it's a matter of being able to fund future budgets. one thing i do want to point out is that first five in one way really has been responsible in keeping some levels of reserve in anticipation of future revenue losses. i want to say that that's something that is commendable, it's something that we could look to doing in terms of the city and being responsible about our reserves as well. but the reason why i won't be supporting this is because the same as we're asking all of our city departments to really take a look at the tradeoffs and to provide some level of help and support to make some levels of cuts that would be possible to make without drastuckly changing things in some departments, we might need to get a decision point to be made. i think that we've got to be responsible with this item as well

i graduated from laurel high school, which is the school where the majority of students are students of color. apart from my caucasian friend, i don't think a single one of my friends came from a non-immigrant family. the other thing growing up in this climate is how polarizing the issue is. it seems like there has been a battle between people who are pro immigration and people who are anti-immigration. but i think, especially seeing all the faces here, just putting faces on this issue makes it so there aren't two sides to this people, that there are two grooms of people opposed to each other. somewhere down the line, all of us came here at some point, except the native americans. but yeah, i think like my mom said, just getting our voice out there, really are part of the same society, and i think our society has faced a real moral crisis where we have family values that are opposed to what our policies and laws say, and we are splitting up families. i have friends who were born here and don't speak a word of spanish and could be deported and couldn't communicate with anyone. i think
