of course, this does involve a teen student here at laurel high school. he's a teen, a juvenile, so police are not releasing much information by way of his identity. they're doing a good job of keeping tight-lipped about that. however, here's what they do say. they say the allegations we're talking about are very real. students and the parents and staff here are breathing a sigh of relief after authorities believe could have been a tragic event at the school. >> wanted to harm people, possibly shoot and do some other harm to folks. there were some lists, diagrams, charts, things like that. so that really gave some credibility to the seriousness of this situation. >> reporter: city of laurel spokesman says the unidentified student was located by police on monday. he wasn't at school but shortly after police caught up with him, he was taken to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluations. as of late tuesday he was still in the custody of that hospital. he called this a classic case of see something, say something. >> it started with the students' observatio

a violent incident thankfully averted at the laurel high school. investigators got a tip from the students and found diagrams and drawingings that suggested a violent act might have been in the planningstages. there was a student taken away in custody away from school grounds and he's been admitted to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation. there was no immediate threat at the school itself. even as most schools in newtown, connecticut, reopen today, one elementary school was kept closed because of some sort of threat. not sandy hook elementary but yet another school. a principal told parents to keep their kids home. tonight in newtown, families are holding wakes for several victims of last friday's shooting at sandy hook. today two more 6-year-olds were laid to rest. >>> not so long ago, national rifle association broke its silence regarding the newtown massacre. in a statement it released, it said the members were shocked and saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders. it also said they wanted to give the families

know, crews and haz-mat units are investigating a suspicious substance found on a package at the laurel branch in oakland. oakland police tell me oakland fire received a call around 10 a.m. that an employee had an unknown substance leaking from a package. in less than 20 minutes, officials had cleared the facility of employees and customers. outside the building in the parking lot two employees of the office office reported signs coughing and eye irritation. those two employees are receiving treatment from first responders. back live i can tell you the oakland postmaster general has arrived. they are evacuating the situation. no one has been allowed to pass the barrier because they've not cleared the area. we have seen some of the first responders remove the haz-mat gear they had been wearing giving an indication that whatever threat there may have been, it may not still be active. once again they have not cleared the scene. we are waiting for a special person to give us more information. once we do, we will update you. nick smith, abc7 news. >>> president obama has set a deadline for g
