that out of control van hit laurel dale elementary school in the worst possible spot. it took out the service line here on the side of the building. that triggered a gas leak but thankfully firefighters managed to prevent what could have been a larger catastrophe they say.

. >>> a van hit a gas line and clipped the power to sam rafael's laurel dale elementary school tonight. the driver lost control and suffered minor injuries when the van hit the building. the gas was quickly turned off and the police had to shut down the street. a holiday concert had been planned at the school tonight. it was moved to a nearby church. >> we had to make sure there was nobody inside the school. our main concern was there was no further damage to property an life. >> the cause of the crash is under investigation. >>> well a driver caught this fiery crash on camera in livermore. a four-car collision. a man driverring a hummer rear ended a jeep which then slammed into two other drives. the driver of the humusy in jail tonight and faces charges of fenny manslaughter. >>> a student at a third california university has been affected with meningitis. the student is going treatment for viral meningitis. the student lives off campus. it appears to be an isolated case. in recent months, four students where infected with bacterial meningitis. and uc river side reported a staffer als

this happened at laurel dale elementary school thursday night. now the investigation goes on into the cause of the crash. school was canceled friday. according to the school's website, the repairs are expected to be finished in time for classes this morning. >>> magnitude 2.8 earthquake shook parts of sonoma county last night. this happened just before 10:00 last night. about two miles southeast of the geysers. the quake was more than a mile deep. so far there is no word on any injuries of damage. >>> if you are planning a trip to the post office today, allow a lot of time. brian flores is joining us from san jose. >> reporter: expect the post office to be very busy today. one person right over here is coming over to drop off his or her cards this morning. it will be very busy at the post office as they consider it one of the busiest mailing days -- [ inaudible ] >> all right we lost brian unfortunately. >> yeah but we can see inside they are working. >> yeah the busiest mailing down. we will check in with brian in a little bit. >>> time is 6:07.

. >> reporter: an unexpected day off from school for students here at laurel dale elementary.ation of this crash that caused so many problems. the van that lost control last night took out this pg&e service line that runs into the building right here in this area. let me show you a photo of this accident scene that was tweeted out by the fire department. this crash was at 5:45 last night at this school. two people inside that van suffered some minor injuries but the van ruptured a gas line and also triggered a power outage on the campus. that outage threatened to cancel a holiday concert that was planned at the school last night. but that event was moved to a nearby church at the last minute. this morning this is the message put up on the school's website letting parents and students know that classes are canceled for today. school administrators do expect that the gas and electrical issues will be fixed over the weekend and they are telling parents and students that monday will be a normal school day after an unusual accident scene and a lot of repair work to do here. live in
