that one of my objectives was to also help make this great city even better, but not rest on our laurels and continue to make this great city of san francisco even better. aside from that, are there other opinions or comments the other commissioners would like to do during my present statement here? commissioner murphy: i would like to make a few comments. i have had a wonderful six years on this commission. parting can be such a sweet sorrow. two years as president, and long before i was appointed as a dbi commissioner, my business took me to the building department very often, and i always felt like i too was very comfortable. it was like being around family, and i knew everybody. notwithstanding, i had many ups and downs and many ros -- rows. becoming a commissioner was exciting, and i was delighted to serve. so many dbi they that easy for me. i want to pay special tribute to ed sweeney, who has always stepped up when asked to. -- so many in dbi made that easy for me. joe duffy, tom huey, niel free -- neil freeman. they've contributed so much to making changes that make it easy or eas

i grew up watching laurel and hardy. that is really a long time ago. i love jerry lewis. i just loved comedians. i never really thought about becoming one. and i love to make people laugh. and high-school, then i found i love being on stage in front of people. i am sure that is some sort of ego trip or a way to overcome shyness. i was always kind of shy and reserved. there was a way to be on stage and performing and balance your life out. a point there comes when you are going to do that, if you're going to continue, you have to start to get good. i got a few lucky breaks in my career. and now i have had a career cop at i am still refining that ability to be funny, and i actually credit twitter with fine-tuning some joke writing skills. i still feel like i am working at it. i feel like i'm on tour with our banjo show, and i did not want people to think they were going to come see our show and there was going to be a guy who turns his back on the audience and place 37 songs and walks off. i knew that i wanted it to be fun and funny, so we incorporate comedy. i don't know,

i graduated from laurel high school, which is the school where the majority of students are students of color. apart from my caucasian friend, i don't think a single one of my friends came from a non-immigrant family. the other thing growing up in this climate is how polarizing the issue is. it seems like there has been a battle between people who are pro immigration and people who are anti-immigration. but i think, especially seeing all the faces here, just putting faces on this issue makes it so there aren't two sides to this people, that there are two grooms of people opposed to each other. somewhere down the line, all of us came here at some point, except the native americans. but yeah, i think like my mom said, just getting our voice out there, really are part of the same society, and i think our society has faced a real moral crisis where we have family values that are opposed to what our policies and laws say, and we are splitting up families. i have friends who were born here and don't speak a word of spanish and could be deported and couldn't communicate with anyone. i think
