for union station.st amtrak is looking to transform the year crowded terminal in downtown dc.dc lauren dimarco is live with more on this proposal. p good morning, lauren.rni >> reporter: good morning. there are major plans in the works to beef up service along the northeast corridor, and today, we will learn more about the master plan for unionon station here in washington, d.c.. it will cost, according to the washington post, $7 billion ovei nearly lltwo decades. now, union station is the second busiest in the amtrak system, and operating beyond capacity. amtrak is concerned about the growing population, they are teaming up with metro to address overcrowding issues, and improve the passenger experience overall. we have some images of the proposal. the outside of the terminal hase sort of a wavy design. and the inside looks rather futuristic. much of the expansion would como brie -- below ground, having natural light from a grass encased main concourse. they were working with a developer, and according to the post, there would be a new office complex, residential towers, and hotel as well. the
