let's get back out to cherry hill right now, and lauren johnson with what happened. lauren?>> reporter: hey, karen, so maybe timothy lock was really onto something when he addressed that ap history class about school safety and security concerns. because now it seems like some change is on the way. as for that meeting you spoke of, let's tell you about what happened last night at the school board meeting. it was packed with concerned students and their parent, as far as this is concerned. they were present to take up two issues. school security, and why that beloved history teacher losses his job for speaking out about it. yesterday evening, the cherry hill mayor, and the township council, called on the board of education to take immediate action to improve security at township schools. one of the board members, quoted as saying, no issue is greater than the safety of our children. and the police chief is suggesting his armed officers be included in whatever plan is implemented, younger student in the district are even speaking out. >> i would really want to see an officer a

lauren? >> well, wolf, lawmakers were back on capitol hill last night, and i will say there is not a whole lotappetite to do wide-ranging gun reform. instead what we're talking about is narrow proposals, one of them being banning bump stocks. the president has talked extensively about this. he may take unilateral action on this and lawmakers are comfortable with that on capitol hill. we're also talking about background checks. this is another narrow proposal. lawmakers are calling about a bill called fix nix. it allows federal authorities to enter more data into the criminal instant background system. it is a far cry from the bigger and larger background check comprehensive proposals we saw in the wake of the sandy hook shooting back in 2013. we should also note that lawmakers have talked a little bit about raising the age at which you can purchase a rifle from 18 to 21. president trump talked about that last week. he seems to be backing off that proposal and the national rifle association is also opposed to doing that. not a whole lot of interest, perhaps, from conservatives to move on that.

this might be a tough hill to climb. laurenohnson's over at the school. >> reporter: hi there mike and alex. we are outside student parking lot. it seems like lots of kids showing up to day to day could be a day where you don't know what will happen or when because we have heard talks about a walk out planned at some point today, administrators are saying you better not do that there will be consequences to that. we finally heard from a student who is in timothy lock 's class and remembers vividly what happened last week that led up to today. and, and, and free mr. lock on protest in the principal's decision to remove him from the classroom. that decision came after mr. lock made some comments to his ap history class in light of what happened in that deadly school shooting in florida. one of those students tells thaws mr. lock said it is very possible that the school here, could be attacked, he was concerned, because security on campus is unarmed which puts kids at risk but he went on to assure those students that if something
