in the past 45 minutes, lauren mayk spoke with hillary clinton and her running mate tim caine.s the only reporter to speak with them during that campaign stop right there. she's joining us now live. lauren, what did they have to say? >> reporter: well, jim, we talked about the convention. we talked about what their relationship would be like if they were to win this election. and we also talked about the resistance that the campaign has been getting from some bernie sanders supporters. we saw that at the convention here in philadelphia this week. and i asked secretary clinton about that. >> i talked to some of them, and they say they like some of the things that they are hearing you say. some of the things, the issues that they have championed. but they don't trust you. why should they trust you? >> well, look, i know how they feel. i ran a very hard campaign against president obama in 2008. and i had many, many supporters, if you go back and look at polls. very large percentages of my supporters who said they would not support him. and i very much appreciated senator sanders e

nbc 10's lauren mayk joining us from center city. how is the evening rush going? >> reporter: you know, jim, the evening rush seems to be a bit tougher. it's rough. just over at jefferson station, big crowds over there and i've been checking the schedules on my ipad and you can see there are quite a few delays, a west trenton train that's delayed by an hour so, you know, septa has made a lot of changes. passengers have made changes and week two is still company with delays. >> it's the evening rush at jefferson station and it's packed. on the trenton line there is already a delay and when this train came not everyone got on. >> the problem is it's so scattered that everybody is doing something different every day so there's no pattern. i don't have a pattern and the other people don't have a pattern yet and the trains don't have a pattern yet. >> they are too crowded or just passing you by. sometimes you get on, sometimes you don't. >> reporter: septa did make changes to ease congestion today. passengers boarded trains from new jersey transit and amtrak at least t

live from cleveland, i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. jim, back to you. >> all right, lauren. hillary clinton herself has been tweeting her reaction to this convention. she did make an appearance earlier today at the naacp convention, a convention which donald trump opted out of and has taken some criticism for that. clinton herself calling for the country to come together after that attack on police in baton rouge. >> and in times like these we need a president who can help pull us together, not split us apart. >> clinton reiterating her proposed reforms to the criminal justice system. that includes national guidelines on the use of force by police, legislation to end racial profiling, and also funding for body cameras. back here in cleveland, as much as the republicans hope this convention will help unify the party, there was a bit of chaos down on the floor earlier today. we're going to show you that coming up a little bit later on. and you'll also hear from new jersey governor chris christie. i got his reaction to what happened here earlier today. for now i'm jim rosenfiel

nbc 10's lauren mayk joining us live from down on the floor as well. lauren, you spoke with delegates about how they're feeling hearing from bill clinton, right? >> reporter: jim, bill clinton has been a force in this party for a very, very long time. if you look around this room, there are certainly people who worked to get him elected once, then again. then took his encouragement to help elect barack obama. you remember that very powerful speech from him for barack obama four years ago. tonight he will be making another speech. this one for his wife. i spoke with a delegate who has a long history with the clintons, even served as a delegate for hillary clinton back in 2008. how are you going to feel tonight when you see him up there and knowing that she is being nominated tonight? >> excited. because i think it will make history. it shows that a man can be for his wife to be president of the united states. and they have a good stronghold. it just makes me feel good. we've come a long way. african-americans, the president, and a woman president. >> rep

lauren mayk is joining us live from the convention floor. lauren, i understand you just spoke with the former mayor as soon as he walked off that stage. >> reporter: jim, this is a big deal for him, in part because he has been acting as a hillary clinton surrogate traveling around the country, helping her campaign. but also, because planning for this convention started back when he was mayor. and i asked him what it's like to have this now in his hometown. >> this is what i've always wanted. i went to my first convention in 1992. in new york city. was a bill clinton delegate at that time. that experience was incredible. and i wanted if ever possible for all philadelphians to have this same convention experience in the city. >> reporter: when he talked about one particular moment, that moment last night where hillary clinton came out and barack obama sort of passed the baton, passed the torch to her, he said he has been thinking about that moment for months. potentially even years. he just didn't know that it would happen here in philadelphia.

lauren mayk spoke to them about their message to voters and also donald trump is trying to win over those same voters who say they have not been satisfied with the way things are going under president obama. president obama of course made the case for clinton at the dnc. >> they don't like the way things are going. why choose you if you're the one chosen by president obama? >> well, look, i think look at what president obama was handed by a republican administration. the worst financial crisis since the great depression. he didn't do that. that was just handed to him. we could have gone even further off the cliff. we're at this factory because they have actually been importing back jobs that had gone to china. they are bringing jobs back here. but they expect people to have the skills and training not to do yesterday's jobs, but today's and tomorrow's jobs. so we're going to help people get that. >> donald trump's campaign is tying clinton to president obama, putting out a statement criticizing what it called the obama/clinton economy and saying that a trump presidency would come with str

talked about the importance of reaching pennsylvania voters in an exclusive interview with nbc10's lauren mayk's. nbc10's deanna durante is live in the digital operations center with more on the exclusive. deanna? >> rosemary, hillary clinton and tim kaine fresh off the big sendoff in philadelphia know they have to make a big win in pennsylvania and ohio come november in the elections. lauren met clinton and kaine during a stop at a toy factory in montgomery county. she asked them about the dnc starting with the moment that her daughter introduced hillary clinton on stage. >> what was going through your mind? what are you saying to each other? >> it was so overwhelming. the feelings that i had watching my daughter introduce me backstage on tv, stepping out there and seeing the sea of people, you know, cheering. i just told chelsea how proud i was of her and how much i appreciated her being there to make that introduction. but much more than that, kind of the woman she is and just gave me a great sense of blessing. >> some of the bernie sanders supporters are not ready to support you. i talked to

want to bring in nbc 10's lauren mayk who is live with me here at a very noisy wells fargo center down on the floor with all the delegates. lauren, the latest controversy left the democratic party at clear crossroads right now. >> reporter: yeah, jim. this party is having a historic convention about to nominate the first woman for president, but i'll tell you one delegate just said to me party unity is a tough thing right now, and as we stand here in this hall you can hear different cheers at different times from different groups. they are not at this point in unison. some are cheering for hillary clinton and some are cheering for bernie sanders when his name is mentioned and when tim kaine's name is mentioned you hear both cheers and boos. just a few minutes ago i found something that happened at conventions, a hillary clinton supporter sitting very, very close to a bernie sanders supporter. here's our conversation. >>> throughout the primary you have been going to events separately supporting individual candidates and you're sitting close to each other at this convention. how does it

i'm lauren mayk. randy gillen hall joins us outside of the hoagie shop they owned in springfield. >> this couple was well known here in delaware county. they owned both a catering couple as well as the slack's hoagie shack here on baltimore pike which is now closed so employees can mourn this loss. authorities say this husband and wife had been using a meat smoker on their back deck when it sparked a deadly blaze. investigators say this fire spread fast starting near the back deck and quickly consuming the couple's home. neighbors heard an explosion as propane tanks ruptured. >> there was heavy flames from the rear of the property. the police were at the front door advising that the two victims were right inside the door at the bottom of the steps. >> the couple had gone to sleep last night after setting up that meat smoker and woke up hours later to an inferno. >> it is my belief that they were trying to get out of the house and unfortunately succu succumbed to the smoke and got pushed to the ground
