joining from us the fox business network studio is lauren simonetti to tell us more. lauren. >> good morning, shannon. stocks are selling off, this is so uncharacteristic for decent. markets generally rally. people feel good. one of the months strong for your investments. a big reason for today's decline is the sharply-lower energy prices and they keep falling. oil plunging about $3 right now to fresh five-year lows. it's about at $60 a barrel right now. huge deal. it is taking names like hess, chevron, transocean, schlumberger, down as well. those stocks plus others now trading at share lowest levels in a year. and energy companies around the world are starting to adjust their production forecasts to fit this new reality of inexpensive oil. and what did opec just do? it cut its oil demand outlook for next year, saying global demand will fall to the lowest point in more than a decade. and the energy department cut its gas price forecast saying driverses can expect to shell out $2.60 a gallon in 2016. by comparison you're spending 2.64 today to fill up. so this is good

lauren simonetti at the new york stock exchange and scott, when i heard it was you, i knew christmas wish was answered. thank you for joining us today. we usually don't get you at 4:00 p.m. eastern. the economy, the big question for 2013, scott, is whether the economy is going to equal the performance of the stock markets. what do you think? >> well, i think that we've got a couple of head fakes here. a decent gdp number, if you pull over and take a look under the hood, the gdp number wasn't as good as we thought it was. and the jobs report makes people feel better. the rate hike talk is almost a near certainty between political and july. i don't think we're going to raise rates next year as much as i would like to, believe me, i think the economy is not doing that well, and we're in the 2 1/2 to 3% range as far as growth and bumps along the way. the thing that helps the stocks is the bank of japan, pboc as well as. ecb, they're easing all next year, and that's going to give us a single digit list for the third year. david: even with scott's gloom and doom broadcast of what the econo

joining us, lauren simonetti. >> it is all about jobs today.let's take a look at the market because it is absolutely affecting your 401(k) in a good way. the s&p is up 12% this year and the dow keeps marching closer and closer to 18,000 up 1300 points. in a positive close for the dow gives us the 33rd record finish of the year. as for those reports, the reed and private jobs creation came in at 208,000. a bit below the estimate of the bigger question is how will it compared the bigger number we got from the government friday morning at if the u.s. is adding more jobs, how much are they paying? not sure we are making money but we are at least working more. output and hours worked in trees. that is good news because companies tend to hire when there is more work to be done. as the services sector, it covers retail, construction, hotels, financial services, et cetera. this sector is pretty strong so again the data is decent. we just have to keep looking for wages to go up. consumer spending 70% of total economic activity. heather: thank you. if yo

here with me, charlie gasparino, fox business senior correspondent, lauren simonetti from fox business, and james freeman of "the wall street journal." charlie, what do you make of the breakdown in the markets? >> listen, i think it's a good thing. melissa: good thing for the markets down so much? okay. >> i like the fact that consumers and average working class americans are getting a huge tax cut by lower oil prices and lower tax prices, if the fat cats take it on the chin, that's fine. the market had incredible run since 2009, fueled in large part about the fed. i think that is part of it. i think market is pricing in slowly that fed will raise interest rates. a nice lit correction might be here and economy picks up and market might come back. melissa: we're talking about so much extra supplies, this is a about a cut in demand which tells you the economy is weaker than those producing oil thought it would be. that is what is worrisome? >> the economy here in the u.s. is stronger than many other places. that is the problem. japan and europe, that is where they slow down more. that wh

lauren simonetti has been picking through it. what is this i see about obamacare saving money?m the chairman of the council of economic advisers. he writes, quote, in part due to the affordable can't act creating major savings for households, businesses and the federal government. stuart: how did he arrive at that? >> employer health-insurance premiums grew at a rate tied for the second lowest on record. stuart: employer premiums are rising. that means households are saving money. may i point out the deductible on almost all plans is going straight up it is and out of pocket expense for everybody? >> if you are lucky enough to be covered with health insurance that comes from your employer and your company, so many people are struggling with this health-care bill and obamacare and the premiums. they are in shocking malls begging them to sign up to meet the numbers but it is the second lowest price inflation in nearly half a century. stuart: is a thin reed to. appreciate you doing that. by the way oil just turned negative. is losing ground in terms of price. the dow is still up 1

lauren simonetti joins us with more details. this, prices and going up and up. they would never shared cheaper fuel. >> airfare is going down but compared to what airlines are saving in this astronomical drop in jet fuel and gas at the pump, everyone saves money, why aren't we saving more money when we fly. the market that is the biggest drop, this is expected for next year was dallas. the reason for the 11% drop in dallas is an easing of restrictions so that is different. flying to vegas next year, 4% out of new york, almost 2%. those are the bigger decreases. l a, prices going up 1%, san francisco going up 2%. we are not all seeing savings. the reason why did you is down so much, the economy is doing better, there is an increase in demand. there is an increasing capacity. charles: have they taken into account the other fees, cancellation fees and bad fees? >> multibillion-dollar -- charles: you may not my airfare down 4% and charge me 20% more because i had to change from thursday and friday. >> i am not impressed with the 4%
