joining us now, illinois democratic congresswoman lauren underwood. she serves on the house appropriations committee. congresswoman, thank you for joining us. so speaker johnson says he has a new spending plan. republicans are banking on just enough democrats to vote in favor of it to get it passed. where do you stand this morning? >> well, i look forward to reviewing the legislative text and what would you need to see in that legislative text to vote in favor of it? i would need to see it. i'm learning of this just as you are. i learned about it on twitter. we haven't seen the legislation yet. and so this is so important to make sure that we're able to fund our government and support essential services. and so the details really do matter, pam. and i'm looking forward to reviewing the text. >> do you think you have enough time now? i mean, the government is supposed to shut down at midnight, given, you know, we don't know how many pages it's going to be, but do you feel confident you would have enough time to read through the legislative text and mak

>> joining me now are congressman lauren underwood, a democrat from illinois and congressman eric swalwell. thank you for being here. i'm eager to get your thoughts on a lot of this. first eric, let me start with you. is the government going to shut down tomorrow might? >> eric, please. it better not because the people i represent who rely on va benefits, social security benefits, small business loans, just want us to work together and look out for them. and what they are seeing now is this broligarchy. this group of billionaire boys donald trump has brought in to government are the ones who are calling the shots. and you know what? if elon musk and vivek want to make the government more efficient, that's great. my constituents want that as well. no one hates goth hates government waste in my town more than me but if is a way to cut social security and medicare, my colleagues will walk through hot coals and fire to stop it. and so what we are sending tonight is the message and you heard it brilliantly from leader hakeem jeffries. republicans are fighting for the rich. we are for the rest.

and more recently i teamed up with representative pressley, lauren underwood and alma adams agreed that justice for incarcerated moms act. this bill will incentivize states to follow our lead in the first act and in the practice of shackling pregnant women once and for all. it provides funding for pregnant and postpartum women who are incarcerated to access do lose, mental health counseling, healthy food and nutrition education come maternal infant bonding opportunities and more to support a healthy pregnancy and birth. this bill is an integral piece of the mom the legislation introduced with lord underwood and alma adams that would -- of death in the united states and make critical investments and addressing the social determinants of health and disparities in mental health care and outcomes. as today's hearing will illustrate in painful, wretched realities, pregnant women in prisons are subject to great injustices. what gives me hope is that more than 80% of pregnant related deaths are preventable. we have the resources to save the lives of pregnant women and and the maternal health c
