laurence: yes, and the women.rian: of all of those, who did you like the most, or who did you get the most from? laurence: mrs. shriver. mrs. shriver. actually, since we have an hour, i'm going to tell you the story. olympics, ipecial went to the minneapolis games, and i got in the car with the shrivers and spent the whole week with them. i did not ask. if i had asked, they would have said "no." i just hung out with them. i came back and i set up -- she agreed to an interview. and i have a journalist's soul. the phone rings, i'm going to answer the phone. every writer i know answers the phone the same way, on the first ring. you are so desperate to talk to someone. so the phone rang that morning of interview, and a know it is the secretary saying "no." but i have to answer the phone. so i totally panicked, do not know what to do. what can i do? i knew this woman called kay haley, who gave this wonderful oral history for the kennedy library. i did not know if she was still around. i looked in the phone book -- ther

laurence: it is a stupid thing to do. i should choose an area and keep at it, but i wanted to do something much different. experience different lives. when you write a nonfiction book, you are thinking back in somebody's life. i want to piggyback on as many lives as i can. brian: of the 15 books, which one sold the most? laurence: "the kennedy women," by a longshot. a multigenerational book about women. nobody had ever written a multigenerational book about women. to put women at the forefront just totally changed things. brian: what about the kennedy women do you most remember and what did the audience want to hear when you talked to them? laurence: it was a book -- i suggested that you do not have to be a woman to love the kennedy women. it was a book read by women.

or uncle laurence. monsignor touched so many of your lives and had such a great impact in florida making this place his home. but despite the fact that he left ireland more than 60 years special person in our family. monsignor came from a small town in the north of ireland. he was brought up in a close knit family with three brothers and five sisters. it was a happy childhood and with his up bringing that gave him the deep rooted devotion to the values of family, values that remained so important to him throughout his life and which would be the theme many of his sermons. his obsessions with sport and gaelic football becoming a key member on the team which won the irish national league in 1947. this is a historic achievement. this was the first time that a soccer and rugby. a tough sport in which local rivalries and grudges can be played out. monsignor would remember these days with affection and he referred to the virtues of teamwork, dedication and respect which he first learned on the football field.

laurence e. higgins was directed to build a parish and for 59 years as a priest, he gave his heart and people of our community. i think it's true that in a priest funeral he preaches his last homily, his final sermon. monsignor picked the reading backgrounds and each experiencing different ways that he connected to us. and like good mentors and friends in our lives, whose words emerged at a time like this, so do his. now, monsignor had a special homily style. i remember when i was ordained in 1983, my first assignment. i would sit in the back in and he was -- it was like he was calling us into a huddle. he would speak directly, passionately and not long then he would literally break the huddle with let's do it. i felt like we wanted to run out of the church. he also had his own way of making a point. had just blessed the easter water and renewed our baptismal promises. all the people had candles lit through the church and at that time he was going with the holy water sprinkler to sprinkle drops o
