it's just her heart and her -- >> jimmy: laurie metcalf. >> oh, laurie metcalf. >> jimmy: laurie metcalfit. how do we describe the film? for people that haven't seen it? >> so, yeah, "lady bird" is the story of a girl who names herself "lady bird" in 2 2002 in sacramento, california and it's basically from her first day of her senior year of high school, all the way through the beginning of college. and it sort of how you can't understand home until you're about to leave it. and leaving your parents, specifically your mom as a a girl, and then leaving your best friend who i play. so julie and lady bird, they're madly in love. they're best friends in sort of that special way that only two girls can be in high school. >> jimmy: you had great chemistry in that. do you know -- did you know saoirse before the movie? >> i didn't. but anyone that meets her, you'll just like instantly be in love with her. and the first time i met her, she ran into my arms. i'm like a koala bear hugged me. and i was like, "this is going to be amazing." she's just delicious. and we had the best time.
