with meterologist lawrence karnow.nce karnow: it was a wild day in weather around the bay area and the state. dozens of lightning strikes were seen in the north and east bay and the rest of the state. this is something more common to an early april pattern. a low pressure center swirled right through the middle of the state setting off those thunderstorms. there are were also numerous reports of heavy downpours and even hail. around the rest of the bay area it was the winds that were the big weather story with gusts over 30 mph being reported. in the sierra the late season storm brought snow to unusually low levels. snow is possible down to 5,000 feet and there could be as much as 4 inches. on the satellite image you can see the swirl of clouds rotating through the state. there's still a chance we could see a few more showers but the thunderstorms will be moving east. computer models show the storms moving east tonight and it should be dry tomorrow. in fact, temperatures will begin to warm tomorrow. highs will be in th

lawrence karnow: a nice sea breeze helped bring cooler temperatures to the valleys today. the fog was slow to burn off and continues to linger at the coast. after a sweltering start to summer, most highs were running below average today. the warmest temperatures were in the low 80s inland with cool 60s near the coast. it's a breezy night and those winds will send fog racing into the bay and some of the valleys tonight. more fog is expected with cooler weather over the next couple of days. we'll take a closer look at those temperatures coming up in a few minutes. (justine) in southern california... fire officials say two people died when their small plane crashed this afternoon. the plane went down in ventura county. when rescue crews got there... the plane was on fire with the people trapped inside. the f-a-a says the aircraft had "crashed under unknown circumstances." the f-a-a along with the n-t-s-b will investigate the cause of the deadly crash. (jr) a runway mishap suspended flights out of san antonio texas for four hours this weekend. an american airlines jet veered off the runway and got stuck in the mud before takeoff. the f-a-a says there are no reports of injuries. airport officials say th
