with meterologist lawrence karnow.lawrence karnow: skies became mostly sunny today and it was hot in the valleys. we are on the verge of a heat wave at least for inland locations where temperatures will soar over 100 degrees. an excessive heat warning is up for the much of northern california and a heat advisory is up for much of the central valley. temperatures there are expected to reach between 100 to 110 degrees. the breeze has kicked in again and the fog is beginning to return inside the bay. on the satellite image you can see the remnants of hurricane hillary spinning to our south. but it's the huge dome of high pressure over the desert southwest that will be building in our direction the next few days that will crank up the heat. there will be enough of a sea breeze that it will be as much as 40 degrees cooler at the coast. computer models show the thick fog returning to the coast and bay tonight before clearing late tomorrow morning. highs tomorrow will be in the 90s to low 100s inland, 70s to upper 80s around

meteorologist lawrence karnow is standing by... with what to expect. lawrence karnow: low clouds and fog hugging the coastline today but there was plenty of sunshine elsewhere. highs today were in the cool 50s and 60s at the beaches but we managed to find 70s and 80s inland. the sea breeze is blowing tonight and will carry the fog back along the coast and into the bay. we could see a few areas of patchy drizzle at the coast tonight too. high pressure will strengthen slightly over the weekend to warm the temperatures a few degrees. we're expecting cooler temperatures and more fog into the 4th of july. (justine) turning to weather now, meteorologist lawrence karnow has our forecast. warmer temperatures are expected this afternoon, especially inland. temperatures will then begin to moderate on sunday as a weak upper level trough begins to develop off our coast. a more pronounced cooling trend appears on tap for the first part of next week, with a deepening marine layer and increased onshore flow. but then by the latter part of the week, high pressure looks to build back in again resulting in a return to warming temperatures. aside from some possible coastal drizzle, no precipitation is presently expected in our area through the forecast period.
