kron four's chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is going to join us now with a look at what to expect as we look ahead to the new year. yeah, it's it's really gonna be interesting. i think this 1st half for the 1st half of the month. anyway, in january. >> we're going to catch a little bit of a break here in the bay or i think we're going to see less normal less than normal rainfall. probably warmer temperatures to other parts of the country. but we're going to talk about some dangerous cold in the coming days. things really kind of switching gears now. we could be talking about maybe the coldest outbreak summit since maybe the mid 90's and parts of the country. so right now things looking relatively calmly. head of those thunderstorms across parts of new york last night ringing in the new year there. now we've got another storm system that's making its way across the rockies and that will bring with it more winter storms expecting a good, maybe 11, maybe 16 inches of snow as you make your way in toward the denver area as we're going to see some heavy snow across the colorado rockies

kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a look ahead. yeah, probably a lot of folks just waking up now after a long night last night enjoying ringing in the new year. >> well, yeah, not a bad start to the new year. couple sprinkles around the bay area today. some mainly north of the golden gate bridge. some light showers there tonight. it's a lot of clouds linger in our skies. not much in the way of rainfall, though, but out of the airports yet people gonna be coming and going now, you know how it can work out. so yeah, the holidays coming to a close san francisco looking good. oakland, san jose are both looking good. no delays reported at our bay area. airports. but we do have the rain, though. the mets making its way into the state. but most of that is located far northern california. you can see that toward eureka a little further south you to get toward mendocino. some rain moving there and some snow up across the shasta, some the higher peaks anyway. but overall, the pattern. yeah, it's still kinda active out there. and so we're goi

we'll go now to kron four's chief meteorologist lawrence karnow who's tracking the forecast in la. yeah. fire now. some snow, some ice and rain. maybe some mudslides. a lot going on in southern california right now. the good news is those winds backed off. the santa ana winds have gone. now you see more of a seabreeze begin to kick in. that means the humidity is going to start to rise and that's going to slow down the progress of some of these fires. but well, you don't really help of some of that rain. you just don't want too much. see the areas shaded in green. yeah. worried about the possibility of some flooding. those a flood watch is up until monday, expecting some rainfall, not all that heavy, although there could be some isolated thunderstorms embedded in this system as it rolls on by. and of course, if you get a thunderstorm all around any of those areas that could actually get things going very rapidly. as far as the rain coming down extremely hard for a short amount of time. and that could cause some mudslides, maybe even some debris flows on the coastline toward malveaux

expected to be ready by february 17. >> let's get your check of your forecast chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here. lawrence, it's been pretty cold last couple nights. very might i say both of you look very exceptional tonight. >> i'm trying to butter you up because i've got some bad like going always. the bay area tonight it is going to be chilly out there. there's no getting around the last night. we had some lows in the 20's. >> and the 3rd is clear. skies out there right now like to get that rain going. unfortunately, just not seeing that as of yet. but things going to change, i think as we head toward long-term. but by day, it's been beautiful. no getting around that. how about 70 today in downtown san jose? 65 degrees. a little more. 64 in concord, a beautiful 67 degrees in santa rosa. out of the beach in half moon bay, 10 degrees above the average is 68 65 in san francisco. but here we go. here's the downside. you get that dry, clear air and these temperatures point has been chilly. if you felt that in the air in the evening hours in the early morning, it has been exceptionally cold. 3

let's check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. hey, lawrence. yeah, things have improved in southern california. wind wise, of course. >> what they'd like to get us some rain but too much rain could be more of a talked about the possibility of mudslides. but, you know, those fires usually burns all the root systems and then we start talking about some issues with some of those mudslides. but right now, still fire danger running high, especially the san gabriel mountains. all those areas shaded in red here under a red-flag warning until 3 o'clock in the afternoon. still very dry in spots, even though a little bit of a sea breeze over the tops, the mountains are still seeing that offshore wind could see some 40 mile an hour. plus gusts over some of the top of the mountains, too. but i think overall, here's the forecast as we head through the night tonight, things are going to begin to change. we're gonna watch more of a sea breeze beginning to kick in as we head through the day tomorrow. all of a sudden you'll see the colors big in the show. but t

court's chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is gonna look, lawrence, are they getting any more snow july cow? that car just stopped in the middle. the street? yeah, i would do the same thing, right? use like some got there. the flame. yeah, it but hey, they don't have, you know, the snow plows or anything like that in the deep south. they're not used. >> to all that cold and all that snow. boy, they had 6, 8, inches of snow in places where they just usually don't see it. it was record snowfall all the way in the deep south. we're still dealing with some very cold temperatures. most precipitation is done, but that cold air still in place. freeze warnings all the way into central florida down in the tampa area. yeah, they've got some cold weather alerts as they're going to see chilly temperatures down the 20's 30's even down toward the tampa area. some extremely cold temperatures. we're not done with the snow yet, although it's going to start to make more of a turn toward the north a bit and along the northeast toward the great lakes where you usually see it further get some more stormy we

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow takes a look. lawrence, this was a crazy week. yeah. i mean, really wild weather across the deep south. a record breaking weather event. even snow. >> right along the ocean. and that's just amazing to see get that cold. now that cold air left behind. so most of the snow, yes, beginning to taper off but not going to melt too fast. we've got some very cold temperatures now kind of settling in that cold arctic air sliding right down. of course, we high pressure on the west coast sea. that trough kind of card itself out bringing all that cold air. well, the deep south, even into places like florida where they usually don't get that cold. we've got some freeze warnings up for tonight, expecting some temperatures in central florida. maybe we get down to the upper 20's overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. so a cold weather advisory continuing all the way into tampa, st. petersburg, places usually don't get it. and yeah, these temperatures going to be very, very cold. you've got 30's there. only 32 degrees for a low in new orleans ton

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. lawrence, it's a good sign that the crews are able to fight it from above. that means the the winds aren't as terrible as they were a couple of weeks ago with the palisades fire. yeah, they do have cast lake right there as well. so they've got a water they can dip into. >> to help fight that fire. unfortunately, southern california has hardly had any rainfall at all after a long, hot summer. now we're talking about 18, 100's of an inch of rain since the beginning of the wet season. so-called wet season. so our drought monitor showing you there under severe drought conditions right now. and so things are going to continue to burn in that area until we get some significant rain. and so offshore winds. the santa ana winds pretty typical this time of year there once again, firing up some gusty winds all around those active fires. see the fire in the castaic area and also a very strong gusty offshore winds continuing and dry conditions down below 10%. so very combustible right now. you get

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a look at the forecast. just about right it's just checked after just here in san francisco, only slightly above average for the entire year. remember, we a lopsided. we're well above average by the end december. but things have changed. >> we dry things out now and it's going to be dry for a while. although i'm finally starting to see some changes in the long range pattern, some may lead to finally getting a little couple raindrops returning to the bay area out the door, though, right now you get a little haze out there. the seabreeze likely to make return in the coming days and that will bring with it. not only his probably some fog out there as we head toward tomorrow afternoon. so yeah, overnight skies stay mostly clear. if you're headed out the door temperature wise numbers of 60 degrees right now in san francisco to 62 in oakland. 64 degrees. very comfortable in san jose. 59 live more. 61 and cocker 63 and beautiful in santa rosa. 57 degrees in half moon bay. yep. we remain dry. been scanning our skies

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us.ove to see that kick on. that's for sure. clean things up quite a bit. you're seeing a little more moisture in the atmosphere though tonight. that's a good sign going to watch the whole pattern finally going to shift gears. we see that happen here. >> in the next couple of days now is going to be interesting to see how that rain breaks down. i think some parts of bay area ton rain, some parts of bay area next to nothing. that's why things work out. sometimes not there right now. it's hazy. looking down from the mount tam camera shaking around in the breeze out there just a little bit temperatures, not all that bad. a little cool coast side. 51 pacifica, you're at 54 in alameda. 57 in san jose right now. 61 in concord, 62 and mild in but a cool 51 in sonoma tonight. it's going to be downright cold. again, this is temperatures going to be dropping off across the board. we've got freeze watches posted again across the north bay, the east bay, the south bay, even up along parts of the peni

con first chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here to give us an update on all of that. we hear, lawrence, the winds are whipping around 65 miles an hour. yeah. over the mountain tops. you get very, very gusty winds right now. >> course, these are extremely dry to go along with that. they haven't had any rain, almost all of winter. and so here we sit dry conditions. every time they get one of these santa ana wind events, they're going to be some issues with fires until we do get some rain here. the very latest conditions outside. it is warm. you get that northeasterly wind. that is that downslope on. that's a santa ana wind continue to howl outside right in santa clarita. they're seeing winds gusting right now at 18 20 miles per hour. but look, the humidity. i mean, it is down to 5%. we're talking desert dry conditions out there right now. so what happens as you get those winds and those kind of dry conditions. and boy, these fires will just take off in a hurry with really nothing to stop a red flag warnings have been posted. of course, we've got also some wind warnings a

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has been tracking the wind conditions in monterey county. he's here now with the very latest, lawrence guys, if in fact it is burning in some of those batteries, those are a lithium-ion batteries. they've got some bad medals and they're very toxic out there as well. so concerned about some of the smoke conditions in there. right now. we're getting a little bit of a southerly component to some of those winds there. so you see moss landing care of that smoke eaking its way toward the north. you've got places like elkhorn, you've got laslo most and of course, a much larger populated area in watsonville. but some of that smoke, a travel all the way up. an app toss also in the santa cruz as well. so we're going to be watching that throughout the night tonight and early tomorrow morning. electrical fires with batters traditionally very hard to put out. right now. we are seeing changes in our weather pattern here locally. that fog is finally back. that's a sign of that onshore wind is so that offshore breeze clouds rolling in across the bay area rig

and with that, we're going to send things over to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for look at theecast. >> little bit of a break southern california, red flag warnings remain up for only a little while longer, but the strong winds didn't really erupt across southern california has forecast that some good news now. >> seeing a little bit of a sea breeze kick in. you get to downtown los and you see those winds, 10 to about 13 miles per hour. that's a nice seabreeze there. still a little breezy as you make your way in ontario. those are still some offshore wind. so not completely again, that onshore breeze going. but i think things will begin to change humidity, of course, always a big factor with the fires and it's been extremely dry in southern california. now they're starting to see that seat of some that the moist ocean air, you can see where along the torrance, almost 40% relative humidity, but still dry in spots are only 11% of an ice. only 10% in chino, 11% in corona. so still got some work to do there, but i think it will begin to improve moreso red-flag warnings are still up

kron four's chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here with more la is bracing now for rain this weekend or yeah, we've got just all kinds different types. whether southern california course been the winds. >> and the terrible fires, those gusty winds overnight just raging across those fires and fanning the flames and more fires breaking out. >> again today, the winds have backed off a little bit now, but still a very gusty, much of southern california. some new fires have begun this up over the fire. also near oxnard. we've got another fire that continues to burn in that area. and while the winds continue to rage on all right, the one near castaic lake, you can see the flames continuing there. the humidity, extremely low down to a 5, 10% in some cases. and that means some very dry conditions. there. and those offshore winds continue to howl in places like that. so we've got a fire weather watch is continuing and warnings all the way up until at least friday morning. and then things are likely going to begin to back off a little bit. but but all of southern california is in danger right

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. >> is with us with a look at what to expect yeah, so scary. get those wins when it's dry. but we've got active fires. extremely dangerous. firefighters really have done a fantastic job. >> maintaining control of those fires in very windy condition. now the winds have backed off a bit. now is still see a in around the coastline, though, malibu. still some of those gusts near 40 miles per hour there. otherwise those winds backing down to about 10 to 15, but red flag warnings have been posted are still looking for the possibility. more danger here in the coming days until they get really significant rain. we could be dealing this with this again. if we do not see a good rain over the weekend, fire issues may be a concern as those winds will likely begin to ramp up once again offshore flow. temperatures in the 50 60 very dry conditions out there to go along with that. that being said, we've got a fire weather warning now posted until thursday at 8 o'clock as we are going to see those winds continue to whip around and those offshore winds blustery

converse chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here with a look at the forecast. ence, tomorrow, i know we're getting some rain. yeah. to get some raindrops on the storms rolling across the city. >> they continue generate some very large swells. and i think we're going to see that rolling in starting tomorrow to right now, kind of quiet out there, not see any raindrops just yet. in fact, not much in the way of cloud cover either, but that'll be moving in the waves. yeah, they're going to be picking up as we head through the night tonight and tomorrow. and so high surf advisory has been issued by the national weather service, starting at 9 o'clock tomorrow night. continuing until sunday. and so these waves going to be dangerous. we're talking about some 15 to 25 footers rolling along the coastline. so even though you don't see the rain, we've got the storms that continue to generate those wells moving across the pacific. and so we're seeing those waves rolling along the coastline. of course, we've seen some damage from thoseastorms along the coastal areas as well ri

. >> is crime first chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joining us now with a look at the what is going on with the weather. yeah. really fire and ice try. we've had all those fires. now you get that snow coming down >> parts of the southern california area in the sierra nevada, too. but >> boy, they had just all of it lately. it looks like things are winding down now with this storm system. but pretty impressive over the weekend to see that rain comes sweeping through. it was good that it wasn't too heavy and could cause more issues specially in some of those burn scar area with larger debris flows and mudslides as well. but you see some of that snow kind of piling up on some of the mountain tops there. some places picked up or 17 inches of snow with some of the higher peaks. so, yeah, now they're dealing with some cold temperatures. and guess what? we've got freezing conditions expected overnight tonight. frost advisories going up now. so a place like calabassas 1000 oaks, you're going look at some cold temperatures down. low 30's overnight tonight and continue into early tomorrow mor

first, chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here to tell us what we can expect. yeah. boy, day after day of sunshine, there is a hint in the long range battery may actually that get back to some rain but not quite yet. we'll see a change overnight. tonight we're gonna see more of a sea breeze began to kick actually see a little fog rolling along the coastline as we head throughout the day tomorrow. and that will cool temperatures down at the beaches. that side of things kind of change in the atmosphere overhead, high pressure kind of getting out of the way and we get return that onshore breeze hazy out there right now. looking out toward the golden gate bridge. temperatures around the bay area right now. not all that bad. 59 degrees for winter's day in san francisco. that's not bad. 58 in oakland right now. 63 pretty mild in san jose this evening. 55 cooling off in lemore. 59 in concord. 61 in santa rosa and 54 degrees in half moon bay dry as can be boy with the news in the doppler radar. we have not found much in the way of rain drops at all this month. and of course,

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. our storm door has closed, though.h, we're saying it's kind of nice to get a nice little break in the middle of winter. it's not a short break, but now you're into a 3rd week. all that they are in the grounds for yeah, right? that's right away. and we need to get going again. and there are some signs we might see things. switching gears, not quite yet, mentally going to see hopefully begin to change. >> as we head toward the end of the month right now, dry as can be around the bay area that's just way worked out. here's a look at the latest numbers in this where we sit right now. we move just slightly below normal. now in san francisco to over 10 inches of rainfall for the year. well below the average. now in san jose, only 3, 3 quarters an inch that 68% of normal. oakland only 57% of normal under 5 inches. there. and santa rosa that had been sitting at about 250% of normal. remember, they had all the flooding issues earlier in the season. well, now they're still above normal, but changes have really occurred as we've

with that, we want to send things over to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for a check on the forecast a yeah, guys a very dangerous out there along the way just hounding this winter season so far. >> and more to come. still, we've got some large storms, the middle of the civic that continue to generate. >> those big time waves out there right now, you're looking toward half moon bay. the fog has moved in pretty thick fog even along the coastline today. some of that ground fog developing around the bay area making for some dense fog early on. and of course, those big-time waves. so we are watching for more a strong rip currents along the coastline, especially on those west northwest facing beaches. expect some of those larger waves may's 18, maybe 20 footers moving in along the coastline. so watch out for that. the meantime, though, big pattern shift just beginning to develop. now we're going to be talking about some very gusty winds out to be the big weather story going forward here. and the fact that remain very, very dry right now. you see some clouds moving in overhead, some mid to

containment still on the >> fire and pacific palisades and altadena and pasadena chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here with a look ahead. a look at what they're facing tonight and tomorrow. yeah, the good news is the winds not going to be as strong as the last couple of days and bad news is they're going to ramp up again tonight. >> and we're still talking about the possibility, some 50 mile an hour gust specially over some of the mountain peaks. in fact, begin to see those winds starting to pick up in parts of the southland right now. some of those winds blowing to 17 20 miles an hour stronger than that over the mountain tops. now overnight. tonight, we're going to see more of that on the way as those winds going to kind of ramp up outside humidity. yeah, it's very dry out there. here's a look at some of the humidity in southern california can see down below 20%, some cases down to less than 10%. so extremely dry conditions there. make it right for a place that has not seen much in the way of rain at all this season. so now we're looking at the possibility of some of those winds are wrapping

our first chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has marked. yeah. boy, tremendous storms rolling across there. hardly of california. see, we've got a big dome of high pressure here. but >> to every ridge, there's a trough. and that's what we're looking at right now. that trough of low pressure making its way across the country. and i'll tell you what we're talking about. some severe weather there. those ice storms are no joke. they've cough all kinds of trouble. they're taking down power line, numerous power outages, trees coming down and just making a really difficult to travel around the storm system coming all the way up from the south all the way through texas and now making its way toward the east coast. and you can see that that rain line to the further south. but boy, all that that sleet also that freezing rain making its way through parts of atlanta further north. now, that turns on the colder air and some snow up into raleigh. but dangerous conditions there and continuing to watch some of those cities that winter storm warnings in effect al

kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a look for your forecast and also just in and earthquake in ca california. yeah. shaken in the new year already. you get up toward the north. >> near clearlake in ca barry. we've had an earthquake there that the earthquake centered the volcanic region. very common to see numerous earthquakes. there you see all the areas shaded in blue. those are a little bit older, but not one of 4.5 that will get your attention. that's for sure. very shallow. only one mile on the depth. so folks living in and around that area certainly feeling that quite a bit. but tonight we are looking at some high clouds drifting on overhead. otherwise storm clouds going to stay away. i think the focus just to the north, but that'll be for the night tonight and tomorrow we're going to see a lot of clouds passing by. and then overnight on thursday night and friday, here comes rolling right down the coastline into the bay area, bringing rain to start out your day on friday. behind that things begin to dry out as we get into the weekend. i think looking like

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is in the weather center now with a look at conditions and large. you could just see the winds affected. >> yeah, just unbelievable. you can imagine driving down i-5 for loss and just go over the grapevine, you had near 6 flags, magic mountain and that's near where that fires at castaic. >> and they're seeing some very gusty winds in that area. so specially over the mountain tops down below even some blustery winds. you see so 20 in some 30 mile an hour. plus winds. but over the mountain tops you could be talking about 65 some 75 mile an hour winds. so extremely dangerous fire conditions there. that is a canyon area, too, which tends to funnel that windy even more. so you could actually see more issues with the winds kind of wrapping up right through that canyon to and boy, it has been so dry in southern california. they have had very little in the way of rain at all. and now you've got these offshore winds, the santa ana winds. so they're coming out of the desert. that's cold, dry air that comes over the tops of the mountains and sinks and further

it's going to be a little chillier out there tonight conference chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here with details. hey, lauren. yeah, we've had those offshore winds again to pure skies. clear all the way the coastline. but >> yeah, that dry air coming with those offshore winds could lead to some very cold temperatures around the bay area tonight out there right now. so the clear skies around the bay area looking good over san francisco. you up as we watch the sun began to set on the bay area on this inauguration day and well, indeed the temperatures. yeah, not bad. in fact, we've still got some 60's outside 62 degrees in oakland. 63 in hayward right now. 65 and lay on 62 degrees in napa. 57 in san francisco, unfortunately, that dry weather pattern continuing outside as we've had a very dry january now. but there's a hint that we may see a major change as we head in toward february. let's keep our fingers crossed for that. in the meantime, the winds yet they've been offshore, a gusty over the mountain tops not so much down below occasionally breezy at times. and you can see some of th

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow with more as we look at the white house where the washington, d.c., metro area has gotten 6 10 inches of snow in some spots lourdes. it's cold out there. yeah. and it's not going to melt any time too soon. that cold air kind of sitting in place now. so. >> all that snow is just going to be kind of shoved aside along the sides of the roads. there as they try to open up many of the roads. but well, those ice storms out to make things very difficult to get those storms where you get that really that freezing rain rolling in and that causes all kinds of problems, bring down tree limbs and power lines and causing all kinds of power outages. >> this storm system just about to make its way off the eastern seaboard. still not on. we've got winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories still in place along the eastern seaboard. but we've got yet another storm system that's just developing that will move right about wednesday. coming up on the south. and guess what, it's going to run into that cold air. and there we go again. we're going to be talking a

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for a check on those wind conditions down in southern california morning. yeah, can't even imagine trying to fires in conditions like that. i mean, it's almost nothing you can do in the winds start gusting. >> over 40 miles an hour, boy, just almost have to get out of the way. they're just trying to rescue people. and those winds are once again ramping up outside. we've seen some gusts last few hours over 40 miles per hour in the malibu area there gusting to 36 right now in ontario. so there you go. the winds now beginning to pick up a scent is usually do during the nighttime hours. those winds really start to ramp up so a very dangerous fire conditions continuing there for tonight. humidity, as you might expect, drying out again, you're looking at 9% relative humidity and a plan right now, 12 in chino, 10%, ontario of moisture, a little bit higher in downtown los angeles. that had a little bit of a seabreeze right along the coastline today. but red flag warnings continue enough for the greater los angeles area and they'll be in place through tonig

conference chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has been warning about certainly want to drive slowly and snow conditions. what's going there? yeah, it's just a rough. go getting up there right now. the storm system rolling through bringing some heavy snow across the sierra nevada, some gusty wind to go along with their now. they're sopping cut traffic there due to spin out there, especially on 80 and they just opened echo summit on 50, but still a lot snow coming down. >> in the sierra nevada, that's going to cause some major delays. if you're headed up there tonight, i'd wait just a day. if you could then wrote, we should be open and clear. look at a dime big right now. things continue to snow in the high country. begin to break up just a little bit of a lot of that snow rolling on through into the afternoon hours. you see it kind of piling up as that cold front moving on by now, more scattered snow showers but still active up there. so you can expect more delays over the next few hours. in fact, going to keep the warnings in effect through at least 10 o'clock. tonight. temperatures

yeah, but let's check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for a look at the forecast. a to get here. that's for sure. a lot of movement going on and just go tonight. >> yeah, we've had the cold temperatures settling in last couple days. been freezing around parts of the bay area. going to be another cold night out there tonight. couple patches of fog. >> sitting out over the bay now. but boy, these temperatures this morning, 28 degrees in santa rosa was 32 and freezing in concord 30 and live more was 28 in sonoma. also in napa to so cold temperatures all around and we're headed back there once again tonight. maybe not quite as cold. still, some freeze watches have been posted for many of the parts of bexar except for right along the immediate coastline. but even there it is going to be chilly tonight. overnight lows again, going to take a big dip down to about freezing in santa rosa about 38 in napa. 37 in antioch, 38 degrees and live more. those temperatures. some cold 40's even inside the bay along the coastline. so a chill in the air tonight. but what we're looking

and with that, we want to send things over to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for a look at conditions there. hey, lourdes. yeah, guys, firefighters getting a break today. mother nature cooperating a much more so as we see in those offshore winds turn to more onshore winds. and that is hugely important for fighting these fires, of course, have been very dry. we've seen some humidity levels down in the single digits at times. but right now more that sea breeze kicking in temperatures have also backed off 50's out there. right now the humidity is on the rise, too. and that's the best news of all that really slows down the way these fires can burn. they get very aggressive when you get those offshore winds and very dry conditions. but this is just the opposite. looks like that is going to stick around. so all the warnings have been brought down. a red flag warnings have been brought down for the first time and quite a while, you can see that sea breeze picking up to 15 miles per hour into downtown los angeles. he was some of the interior valleys, seeing those winds kicking up as well. so

. >> speaking of the chief here is chief meteorologist lawrence karnow with the forecast love chiefs going around, right? yeah. yeah, guys. hey, we've got a change in the weather pattern now. you can really see it this afternoon. of course, we've had those offshore winds and beautiful conditions all the way. the coastline. now, the sea breeze has started to kick back in. and guess what shown up yet? you good old friend. that fog starting to roll back on shore and of course, just a sign of the times as you get that onshore breeze, that fog rolls back in. and here we go. things change but not for long temperatures right now. you look at 57 degrees in san francisco. 59 in oakland, 63 in san jose. you've got clear skies and 61 livermore concord at 63. 58 in santa rosa and foggy. 54 in half moon high pressure. yeah, it's just still sitting off the coast line. kind of breaking down a little bit. there's a weak front that moved in and that frontal system. well, unfortunately in a drop southward is a drop southward. all of a sudden we're going to start to talk about those offshore winds. aga

less than send things over now to crawford's chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for a check on the conditions with a view to some rain. of course, not too much because of a deal with months lives. >> all kinds of other issue , but they are catching a little bit of a break. now, the winds have eased off somewhat. in fact, an onshore breeze kicking to the greater los angeles area. still a bit of an offshore wind. yeah, to some of the interior valleys, but nothing too strong around southern california this afternoon. now gonna be watching that very closely. it looks like overall the humidity has come up and that course. it's great news for firefighters, the higher the humidity, the slower those fires were likely to burn. you can see some places you get toward downtown los 40%, almost 50% in towards still pretty dry. and in the teens and some of the interior valleys. so still some work to get done there. but i think things should greatly improve as we head in toward tomorrow. in the meantime, though, we've got some red flag warnings continuing in parts of the area of fact, expecting some gusty wi

we want to go to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow who is tracking the ocean and the forecast a large. yeah, we've had these large waves. the storm systems just generate the swells out over the pacific and eventually those waves and up along the coastline and >> we're seeing another round of that. again. of course, we had a storm moved through today, bringing some rain to the bay area that. >> oksana settling down now, but still the storms continue off the coastline. so watching some big breakers moving in toward the beaches, especially west northwest, facing beaches. that's where you're likely to see our largest yet. maybe 18. maybe 25 foot breakers got to be extra careful on the rocks, of course, to go along with that. you're going to see some very strong rip currents out there, too. so be careful out there as we're going to see those waves continuing to build right now. not all that large. in fact, the very latest you can see along the coastline into san francisco about 6 foot waves moving in. but they're much larger waves off the coastline. in fact, some of those waves. yeah, we'r

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has been tracking the conditions actually. going back to grant. we have some breaking news at a calabassas. >> we reported on it at the top of the show. that fire is now up to 900 acres. it is raging. evacuation orders are now in effect for that area. officials telling people to get out now. so they thought they had that relatively under control. but obviously the conditions have changed. lawrence, what is going on down there with the get the santa ana tend to ramp overnight and that's what we're seeing happen. expecting to happen. >> throughout the night tonight. so you get in those areas where you get above 1000 feet or so. all of a sudden those winds start gusting 50 plus miles an hour. you get that kind of wind and really it just becomes a time where firefighters are trying to get people out of the way. there's not much you can do to stop it when those fires are raging like that. here are the current wind conditions across the greater los angeles area. you can see fairly light even a little bit sea breeze along the immedia

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here. great day to walk a dog handler. yeah. beautiful day out there during the day during the morning. i think you're scooting pretty quickly just to try and stay warm outside those temperatures for overnight lows last night the 20's and 30's around much of the bexar. and i think here we go again, we're going to see those temperatures really take a drop as we head throughout the night tonight into early tomorrow morning. so it's clear all the way the coastline right now you had a couple high clouds ripped up above, but yeah, these temperatures today by day, at least it's very nice. 67 degrees in san jose, 64 degrees and live more 60 in concord. 62 in half moon bay. 64 in saint rose and 61 degrees in san francisco. but it's just those night time temperatures. things get very, very chilly. in fact, watching numbers begin to fall off. right now. temperatures in low 40's already in fairfax. 48 sonoma. 48 insane lina. so here we go. get ready. going to be a long cold night ahead. in fact, the national weather service issued a freeze

kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has the details. yet. they may finally get some raindrops these next 12 hours or so. pretty dangerous out there overnight tonight, although the a major winds have backed off quite a bit since early this morning. still gusty out there in spots. you oan see some of those winds, 20 plus miles an hour in around some of those active fires. and so >> watching those very, very closely right now. but just dangerous conditions across much of southern california and extremely dry, too. some of the humidity levels down less than 10% in parts of the southland. and of course, you had some very warm temperatures to go along with those offshore winds. so even now we're still looking those offshore winds continuing to blow that dry desert air working its way across much of the state. so fire weather warning remains in effect until 10 o'clock in the morning. greater los angeles area. and we continue to see that all the way down in the san diego's. we're expecting more dry conditions through that period as well. after that,

crawford's lawrence karnow is joining us now with more on that advisory. lawrence. lot of people who really love to surf. yeah, they will head to the coast. it all looks good to get out on those big monsters, whole different story. those mountain waves just rolling it along the coastline. now, just beginning to pick up a little bit. but i think more so as we head through the weekend and maybe beyond that as well. so >> high warnings up along the coastline, expecting those conditions as we head throughout the weekend. that wave height. yeah, 18, maybe some. 25 footer special on west. >> and northwest facing beaches. so yeah, there's some waves out there right now that are just developing right now to about 7 feet of the start to pick up a little bit along the coastline. but why not far away? and we start to see some of the areas with some larger ways began moving just to the north of us at 19 feet and then well on the pacific. still, we've got these large storms continue to roll across the pacific and generates a big time winds. and now we're looking some 27 footers

let's check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow now who's tracking the wind conditions. >> down there in monterey county, lawrence. yet guys know that plays very well and they are seeing that smoke kind of swirl around right now. more of a southerly direction being kicked in by the wind. so that is carrying that smoke away from cassville right now, the south that's very populated area. of course, you've got the l course lou. >> a lot of a teeming with life there. you've got a tremendous amounts of life along the coastline there. of course. >> you've got people living up further toward elkhorn, also into the last low, most watsonville. that's a major hub where a lot of people are watching too and living in those areas also nap toss and also into santa cruz. smoke coming up in that direction right now. and so that would be the main concern there for tonight. so, yeah, boy fires. they have been an issue so far. southern california looking at more of those conditions to. but the good news for them, they're getting a little relief. now we're seeing more of an onshore breeze in

so just in the past, 48 hours, chief meteorologist lawrence karnow was talking about all that snow. they were going to be getting it materialize, lawrence. thank goodness, right. they've had a lot of snow right before thanksgiving and then again, right before the christmas holidays. and then. >> boy, it really just shut off in january. they've had nothing since until these past storms move through. >> this weekend. so they were waiting for some of that snow. of course, they've been making snow up there as well. that of the pack up there. but nice to see all that snow coming up over the sierra nevada and working its way all the way into southern california. that was the best news of all. but yeah, more of that snow on the way. and i think we've got some more storms are going to some more snow up in the high country. in fact, really nice snow up there. so great reports across the high country. many of the resorts getting a lot of snow up there all the way. the mammoth area, good 6 inches of snow and even more than that in southern california, you can believe that the focus of the storm

our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here. >> with look at what to expect seems like more danger. yeah. exactly. more danger. firefighters done a great job, though. today you get those kind of wind with active fires. i mean, that is so dangerous. but so far, at least in los angeles area, things looking okay. the winds have backed off a bit. it's still. >> a little bit blustery in spots you get toward malibu to see some gusts over 20 miles an hour. plus there. but generally around la, the winds have really calmed down over the mountain tops. we've got red flag warnings up again. it's a very gusty conditions and that very dry air, only 12% relative humidity right now in santa clarita. so anytime you get below 15%, things get very combustible. so we do have fire weather warnings issued until thursday at 8 o'clock in the evening. still those offshore winds and dry conditions are favorable for more fires to possibly get started humidity. yeah. that has been the big problem. look at 8%. van eyes right percent yorba linda, only 13%. you know, we're talking about 15%. you get below that.

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a little bit more on that morning. last winter time in the bay area. we've got some big storms in the middle of pacific. and once they move across those waters. >> those winds are strong enough. they'll generate some big swells. and we've seen that play out this winter so far. these large storms out over open waters and those winds blowing across that the open water and well on generating some big swells out there. and we're going to see more on the way for tomorrow. in fact, expecting some 18, maybe some 25 footer is moving in along the coastline. national weather service has posted a high surf advisory out toward the beaches starting at 9 o'clock on friday night, continuing all the way until sunday. so, yeah, you've got to be prepared for that. go along with that. also, we've got very strong rip currents. so you gotta be careful along the water's edge. you know, surfers the like these big swells. and that's just going to kind of get rough out there. be prepared for that. if you're going out to watch the big swells mi
