we want to get right to our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow with the very latest. lawrence. yeah, guys, here we go. a lot of that storm system coming onshore in the afternoon. some light showers to begin with. but now we're really starting to head toward that period of very intense rainfall overnight tonight and tomorrow morning, you're looking out toward the san mateo bridge, very slick out there right now, even more. so this is really just been the light rain moving through so far and all the bridges you can have to watch out. we're going to see these winds intensify overnight tonight. not too bad out toward the golden gate bridge so far. but just along the coastline, parts of the north bay, they're starting to see some gusts of almost 50 miles per hour. now. and that's going to be headed your way. so the storm system just putting itself together and it's going to bring with it. some subtropical moisture. and so the national weather service is now extended. that flood watch for the entire bay area, expecting some heavy amounts of rain watching out for some of the usual sus

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow continues our coverage after >> i welcome back. taking a live look here at the bay bridge toll plaza. fortunately not too many people jammed up there trying to get through, but the roads are slick. so got to be careful. yeah, it's always good to see less people out on wet roads. then more chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is got a look. >> at the lawrence guys yesterday was so sunny and bright, but we are back in the rain again. it looks like wants to stick around at least through the night tonight. least part of the day tomorrow as the storm system slow to move out. i'll show you more of that in just a moment. but out there right now, it's been slick. in fact, causing all kinds of problems. we've got the flooding issues. of course, we've seen some wind, some wind damage, trees coming down. that's an issue out there as well. and now out of this, a full because of all those strong gusty winds. they've got a lot of delays. in fact, some of those delays 3 hours. how about that out at sfo? they have seen some of the gusts out there.

let's check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. hey, lawrence.eah, the moisture content in these storms very, very high. and that's because this is last on the subtropical moisture. so the water content running much, much higher. now. we've got a storm coming a little bit later on this week. things are pretty dry is going to that nice powder. so you get ready ski this weekend, he was keen on that fresh powder there in the sierra nevada up there right now. you can see all that snow piling up in the high country. it's really coming down. they are chaining up on 80. if you're headed up their rough ride there tonight. some very gusty winds to go along with that. we do have some winter storm warnings in effect until 10 o'clock in the morning on wednesday. and that will likely only be a brief break before they get reissued again with that next storm system. and that next storm system, much colder that is going to drop the snow levels all the way down to about 3,000 feet. all right. in the meantime, though, temperatures, yeah, tomorrow, not a bad day to

first, we want to check on those conditions across the bay area with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. lawrence. yeah, damage just a rough day all around the bay area last night daytime hours. we saw just terrible driving conditions all across the bay area. tremendous amounts of rain coming down. >> and those winds were just whipping outside right now, turn more towards scattered showers. but those can be some brief, heavy downpours. and the concern is it's been raining so much. >> any of those downpours of their heavy enough can give quick rise to some of the creeks and streams and that more flooding issues. ben lowman over 5 and a half inches of rain last 24 hours. can't field 4 and a quarter over a 3 inches of rain in danville, san bruno over 2 and a half inches. redwood city also over 2 and a half inches in over 2 inches of rain in sunnyvale. now to go along with that, the winds have really been weapon and taking down many trees and power lines around the bay area. we had a gust at sfo of 62 miles per hour today. augusta token, a 41 53 in black hawk. 41 in richmond, 45 degrees 45

kron 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow was here. and, lawrence, this could be a concern for a few days. yeah, i think so. as that water just takes a long time roll down the hill creeks and streams and rivers around the bay are going to continue to flood outside the clouds rolling in light showers so far. >> things are going to be picking up tonight, though, some heavy rain moving in with some very gusty winds overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. they some damaging winds overnight. tonight, some winds gusting 70, maybe 80 miles an hour. definitely keep all your flashlights ready to go. and that heavy rain leading the possibilities from flooding by tomorrow morning, especially on the roadways. that morning commute is going to be extremely difficult. maybe some debris on the roads to from all the blowing winds. we're talking maybe 2, maybe 6 inches of rain the wettest spots in the mountains, especially the santa cruz mountains. very heavy rainfall moving right now. just beginning to see some light showers moving into the state

let's check in now with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow, a lawrence. nice to see that break in the storm pattern right now. but they're more storms on the horizon. we're not done just yet right in the middle of wet season. so we've got more on the way. >> and a pretty big storm coming in much of california right now, though, are getting a break in that pattern. it looks like some nice conditions around the bay area right now. it's cold out there. no getting around that. but it is entirely dry across the bay area at this time. boy, we've had a rough weather week all around as the storms been rolling in tonight. we'll stay mostly clear and cold frosty start your day around much of the bay area. even inside the bay. you might see some patchy frost into the santa clara valley as we look toward tomorrow, you've got sunshine in the afternoon. cold start the morning again on sunday. and so those overnight lows flirting with the upper 20's, i think in spots inland, especially in the north bay valleys, but sunshine in the afternoon helping warm things up a litt

but first, let's go right to our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for the very latest on the conditions outside lawrence kan. here we go. we're just really get into it. now. the rain has been showing up around the bay area, but now. >> begin to see some of those winds starting to ramp up. and it's only going really intensify as we head through the night now, especially as we head toward midnight tonight. the roadways, of course, very, very slick out there already were going to see a lot of rain overnight tonight and likely going to see some debris in the roads. flood watches have now been extended across the entire bay area watching some of the places that have already flooded the russian river near guerneville mark west creek in the north bay. also green valley creek. but the santa cruz mountains is going to be hit, especially hard. i think with this storm system, we're looking at the san lorenzo river, possibly flooding there have to watch out for socal creek as well. so all around the bay area is the possibility of some flooding issues. you can see the rain just beginning to move ons

kron four's chief meteorologist lawrence karnow tracking the very latest on this storm. lawrence. one of 2 storms rolling in the bay area the next couple days. the first one coming on shore right now. it's slick out there on the bridge is you're looking toward the san mateo bridge right now on. i can see more rain. that's going to be a lot heavier. is that second storm system comes on shore as we head toward tomorrow night. that being said, the national weather service has now issued a flood watch for almost the entire bay area. the entire north bay, slow county. you see down the peninsula parts of the east bay through richmond and oakland else union city fremont milpitas all under a flood rochow right through saturday evening as we're expecting the excessive amounts of rain to come down right now, it is a very light rain that continues to fall outside. we've had some snowflakes over some of the mountain tops in the south bay. but overall, things are going to get interesting is we're going to see a much system roll our way. heavy rain, real possibility of flooding. yes, that's pos

let's thing send things over now to our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for what's happening outside with the lawrence, in a really dangerous day around the bay area. now a dangerous night outside the rain continuing out there. turning. >> more towards showers out there, but still very dangerous out on the roadways. >> you're looking toward the san mateo bridge. things are very wet out there. and now we're seeing the showers show up. it's not that continuous rain, but boy, we have tremendous amounts of rain over the past. 24 hours over 5 and a half inches. ben lowman in the santa cruz mountains for quarter canfield danville, checking in 3 and a 3rd san bruno over 2 and a half redwood city. also over 2 and a half inches and 2 inches. plus in sunnyvale. but all around the bay area got a good soaking of rain. so the ground is entirely saturated now. so you get the showers. and even though they may not seen a significant where all our brain is running right down into the tributaries, everything is so saturated. that's going to cause rapid rise on many creeks and streams still seeing some

let's get straight to our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for the latest on tomorrow's what weather, lawrence? yeah, quite a series of storms we've had since the previous friday, 15 17 inches rain across the coastal mountain ranges. it has been coming down >> and now that grand is completely saturated. couple little break today. sunshine made a return, but not for long. in fact, we're seeing the damage still has that water rolling down into the rivers. the russian river continues to flood at this hour, expected to move back within its banks overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. but the national weather service has issued a flood watch for much of the north bay. as we look toward tomorrow and continuing through friday as we're going to see another round of rain working its way through that area. in fact, maybe some thunderstorms and that could give some quick rises to many of those creeks and streams or need to be. it's going to bring with another round of some pretty intense rain. and if we get those thunderstorms, some heavy rainfall in the north bay that could lead to mor

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow has our forecast. yeah, you know, i just talking a cause he wants to get up there and i said you better get up and go if you want to get up there in time. this storm, it is going to rage in the high country. think it's going to rain here a lot. the snow is really going to come down across the sierra nevada and the winds we could even see maybe a foot and a half of snow all the way down the lake level right now. kind of quiet out there. a lot of clouds moving up above, but stay fairly dry at this time. the temperatures. yeah, it's been cold up there. there's no getting around that. this is some cold air mass that's kind of settled in. 26 right now climate is 29 south lake tahoe. 26 degrees at home with winter storm warnings going up across the sierra nevada wednesday. 10 o'clock at night to friday, 10:00pm. boy, we're going to see a whole lot of snow all the way through the chest area. the southern sierra nevada get dumping of snow as well as that system rolls through. so traveling up, there is no joke

first, chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a look at to what they can expect. yeah, it has been a rough winter across parts of the country. boy, they're getting hit hard. >> by some record cold temperatures all the way into dallas last night they had a record cold of 12 degrees for overnight low unbelievably cold. there in the francisco, we've had a not bad conditions. your flights. okay. but you get the other parts of the country. yeah. everything begins to change. all that said you get to laguardia. they've got some delays there. look at the temperature. 24 degrees. they got problems of having some issues at newark right now. and that's the deal. we've got these cold storms rolling across. we've had some snow to go along with that. and of course, the bitter cold temperatures that are really dangerous cold across a good part of the country. you see the storms rolling the east now on all that cold air rolling in across the great lakes. and guess what? they're going to see some of that lake effect. snow could see a good 6 inches as you make your way near the gre

chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with a look at it. >> how much rain do get? yeah, i'm least excited for them. i mean, boy, they need the rain down there. but with the fires that burn scar, it's just going to be terrible. so, yeah, we're seeing some heavy rain headed our way and that is going to work its way into southern california. all that's part of the same system that is really going to pound the state wide. but >> southern california, of course, with those areas of the affected by the fires were talking about debris flows and mudslides. flash floods, boy could be a real all right. now it's kind of quiet out there in los angeles area. they've already posted a flash flood watch is expecting some of the rain race to exceed about a half an inch to about an inch an hour or so. you could see some flash flooding and some debris flows caused by that as we head through thursday and into friday as well. we've got to flood watches posted a further south laguna niguel temecula also to have it and for the south all the way to san diego, we've got some flood watches c

let's check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. and yeah, it's gorgeous out there today. really springfield to it outside as we have high pressure start to build in setting the stage looks like a nice stretch here ahead. we're going to see some minor changes. >> out the door tonight, you've got mostly clear skies likely to see a few more clouds roll in overnight tonight. maybe even a couple patches of fog along the coastline. temperatures out the door right now. you're looking 40's and 50's get a little chilly and a half moon bay, some low 40's there. but overall today we had highs in the 60's. even a couple of 70's popping up in places like concord and livermore. so, yeah, pretty impressive out there. high pressure trying to build in. that's going to send the storm track well to the north of the bay area. occasionally we'll see some of those high clouds kind of drift overhead just like today that looking good as high pressure takes care of us least for now skies. nice and clear right now scanning skies of the doppler radar so far

let's get straight to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. now for a closer look at the timing of this storm yeah, just coming through right now. i think tomorrow is going to be a very intense day. weather wise around the bay area. dangers out there on the roads. >> let's say we've got that for sample coming in the afternoon. well, we've seen that the wind kind of kicking around to seeing some 30 40 plus mile an hour gust 50 mile an hour gusts over some of the mountaintops is wet slick out there. now and it'll be worse by tomorrow. we're going to see those winds really ramp up about the middle of the afternoon right now. very intense band of rain begin to move in again. and it's been kind of on and off as we hd through the afternoon and the evening hour. look at the cell that's moving in to the north bay right now. petaluma you get to inverness. still a beach. also, nevada, you're seeing that rain pick up some very intense rain out there. now and plenty more to come. we have flood watches posted across the entire bay area through tomorrow's a
