lawson for five minutes. >> thank you, mr. chairman, to you and the ranking member. it's been my honor to work on this xhcommittee. i've had the opportunity to be involved with agriculture probably most of my life, and chaired committees in the house and in the senate in florida. when i first wanted to be on this committee, i talked to ranking member peterson, and he was explaining to me how this was such a non-partisan committee and that we really wanted to get something done for the american people. i would not speak too much on the statistics, because you've heard it from several other members, and i would probably talk later on, on s.n.a.p. benefits. but i will say that i did not come to congress to set up another bureaucracy in government and spend billions of dollars setting up another bureaucracy, and i urge my colleagues, especially my republican colleagues, that they shouldn't support it. i come from a conservative state, and in that conservative state, i've heard from members in the legislature about the effect that this would have on people in the state of
