former navy f-18 pilot lea gabrielle spoke with an admiral. >> pilots told me they were more concernedbout a failure in their life support systems than they are concerned about being shot down by enemy fire pit what do you make of those suggestions? >> i think it's important for all of us in leadership positions to understand when we hear those things there's a cry for hay, are you listening? >> the admiral says they navy is listening and taking action with an unconstrained resource approach. >> a lot of people converging on a problem. we are going to find ways to mitigate the risk and fix it. >> when systems don't provide clean breathable air, they become dizzy, euphoric, or even pass out while flying. reports of those kinds of incidents have been on the rise. in fact, the navy is using a simulator that trains pilots recognized if they become impaired and manual activate their emergency oxygen. i tried it. a little bit dizzy and then it felt like a sudden head rush. to address the issues, they navy has been increasing inspections and improving maintenance. based on the 65 page review,

arthel: lea gabriel, thanks. heavy fighting in afghanistan today as taliban fighters square off south of kabul. started with a car bomb outside a police base and several gunmen storming the compound. conor powell has more from our middle east bureau in jerusalem. >> reporter: it took almost the entire day to repel the attacks and kill all of the insurgents. taliban fighters first detonated a car bomb outside the front gate of the fleet base and six militants rushed in. several of the taliban were killed quickly by security forces but a few barricaded themselves in a kitchen on the compound and continued the attack for hours, ultimately all the insurgents were taken out. in addition to the six police officers that were killed, dozens of others including civilians were injured. today's attack comes after seven u.s. troops were wounded on saturday by an afghan soldier in apparent green on blue attack in mornafghanistan. these are a few of the many violent incidents taking place in recent weeks. pentagon is expected
