thank you to supervisor campos for his leadership on this issue, and it is always a pleasure to have many city department leaders and youth, stakeholders. thank you, chief, from dcyf, claudia anderson with eastern support services, tara reagan, paul. i am glad we have many influential players in the chamber tonight. i also want to set the tone of tonight's meeting. i am personally very interested to hearing all of your genuine experiences you have had in the past, however we do want to keep the conversation moving forward, so therefore, i believe the theme, the concept that we are trying to set or atone is let's advocate, let's advocate as individuals, as individuals who have experience, whether it is negative interactions with police, let's attach it to your experiences and story by identifying the root problems that we have and also providing solutions so that we can learn from each other, and also, we would like to hear the positive outcomes that have occurred with youth and police officers, so please share those so that we can replicate those in the future, and also, we know we have, as a

the very indict push that we have to have in this city because it's going to be more than enthusiasm that's going to get us there. it will be leadership, enforcement, all the things that you know we have to do to change culture. what i've been doing is talking with a lot of residents on the west side of this city who are challenged because they're so used to being in their cars and they feel that righteousness of having an expensive vehicle and having paid for it and all the insurance and all of that i used to have when i had my three cars. that we only needed one. maybe a half a car and i had three because i was in that culture myself, and to think back about what really led me to feel that way and trying to pierce that culture that we still have very much in the city, that it's my road and that those who want to introduce something different, it's their responsibility to be more safe than i because it's my road. that's what we have faced up with. and a lot of these corridors do have a direct connection to the ramps that go to our freeway. so it's very hardcore values and culture that we're facing to really make that change. so i wan

a great new administrative team to this city with our city administrator, under fire chief, the police chief, and developing really strong leadership for our city. she has also made some mistakes, and she has had the courage to acknowledge them, which is not easy for any of us. i know it is not for me, and she gets credit for that. the solutions to occupy oakland are not easy, and none of us can spell them out, but i do think that all of us, whatever we think about the occupied -- occupy movement and how it has been handled, can agree that not oakland, not any city should be expected to tolerate lawlessness or violent anarchy.
