joining me now is capitol hill news correspondent leann caldwell and jacob ward in menlo park, california. leann, i want to start with you. we've received an early look at haugen's opening statement. what can we expect about what she is expected to say today? >> reporter: good morning, jose. it is expected to be a bombshell testimony when frances haugen, who was a whistle-blower, who has come out publicly and shown herself. and she's going to deliver this scathing testimony about facebook, in which she says, i came forward because i recognized a frightening truth. almost no one outside of facebook knows what happens inside of facebook. now, her testimony is going to go on to say that facebook has the data that shows that its algorithms and the content that it shows the public is, in fact, damaging and that they know that they can do something about it. but they choose not to. and the reason they choose not to, she says, is because of company profits over the good of the country and the good of society. and she says, that is what is extremely problematic, and she says, that is what people

let's bring in nbc white house correspondent monica alba, big day, leann caldwell. and eugene daniels. monica, congressman dave cicilline was supposed to be joining us at this moment but he's waiting to talk to the president. you got the details what's in this thing, what's in the plan? >> reporter: i can tell you that the president is delayed. he has not left the white house yet for that meeting with house democrats. that's significant because he has already pushed back his departure to italy and scotland because he's trying to hash out the final negotiations and details of this brand new framework we can report that the top line of this package has been scaled down from the original 3.5 trillion now to something in the $1.75 trillion range. there's a lot of headlines on what stays in and what's cut out. in the new framework the president is going to try to convince democrats to get behind, there will be universal prek, elder care funding, expanded child tax credit through 2022 at least. a clean energy funding and tax credit. there is at least $555 billion dedicate

. >> joining us now is leann caldwell, sean henry, who is a former fbi assistant director, and elise jordan with us, a former advisor to the george w. bush white house. as far as congressional testimony goes, francis haugan. she is providing new insights into that company and how it works. so give us the top lines from today's hearing. >> yeah, jeff, what francis is doing is telling the country what is happening at facebook that no one has known before. what she is saying is that facebook knows exactly what they're doing. they have studies that show that their cob tent can be destructive and divisive, and it e voces a ton of emotion and anger and they ignore that and they continue to push people to respond to it. there is multilayered testimony where she says they are hiding what they know and acting in the exact opposite way as this information that say recommend, and she says that they don't have any insight because they put walls around their information so they can't gain insight to this afghanistan. she also compared it interestingly to the tobacco fight of the 1990s where dock

joining me now is leann caldwell and jonathan lemaire, the new host of "way too early." what do they believe the president has established this morning by going up to the hill, talking to the democrats, because the progressives as of last night and this morning were feeling very left out and very angry at senators manchin and sinema. >> he was trying to extend that olive branch saying he needed this to get done. but he is facing a lot of distrust in his own party. those moderate conservative senators, as you mentioned they're not trusted by a lot of progressives, even now. there is a sense here, we heard from lawmakers, waiting to see. progressives are saying we're not going to vote unless we have firm commitments that they will back the reconciliation program and until they do we won't vote on the bipartisan infrastructure deal. and so now we're hearing moderates in the house saying they may not be for this bill. usually when a president goes to capitol hill he goes to to seal the deal that he is just getting the ball from the one yard line into the end zone. this is no

leann caldwell on capitol hill, senior business correspondent stephanie rule and the congressional economic policy reporter tony rahm. so kristen, let's talk about these meetings that have been going on at the white house all day. what are we learning about the nature of these meetings? are they negotiations? are they trying to get close to a deal? where is the president in locking down support from all of these lawmakers? >> reporter: garrett, i think they are trying to get close to a deal, but the white house press secretary was pressed repeatedly on whether the president was going to press lawmakers to come to a final dollar amount today in these meetings and she wouldn't say that that was the goal. instead, sheen continued to use that word progress. so what does progress look like. we know that it the president met with senator sinema, senator manchin separately. now he's meeting with progressives. he's going to meet with moderates later on today. the fact that all these lawmakers are not in the same room tells you everything you need to know about where they are. and where they are is

joining us now, leanne caldwell. it appears chuck schumer is calling for another vote to shame republicans and not vote to raise the debt ceiling paying for their own bills. mitch mcconnell says there is no way we are going along with this. >> good morning, willie, we are seeing no indication that there is going to be ten republicans that are going to break with leader mcconnell and their party and health democrats get past this procedural vote on the debt limit. it's really interesting. it has also been increased in the past on a bipartisan bases as well. the minority party this time the republicans have blocking, they're essentially filibustering the democrats' able to lift the debt limit. that's what's infuriating democrats. they're saying you don't have to vote for. get out of the way and let us pass this procedural vote so we can lift it on our own. this is becoming a political gaminship. >> they believe democrats will be totally blamed because they control both chambers of congress and the white house. that's w
