leann melendez spoke to people who said they just needed to get out. she joins us live from the roof at abc 7 studios. i love how you said it earlier, we're all human. >> that's right. well, you know, let me just tell you to start out we've been all stir crazy. people have been working from home, they've been attending classes from home, staying safe at home, but then you added today the heat, the holiday and people said, you know, i'm going to go out there, i'm going to practice social distancing, wear a mask or not, and i'm going to take my chances. people started gather at stern grove in san francisco as early as 6:30 this morning, perhaps to claim a spot far enough from the crowds, though late in the morning it was clear people were gathering elsewhere at ocean bea beach. this was noon and already the beach was getting crowded. the painted circles were still there and so were volunteers with the san francisco police department, handing out masks and reminding people to keep their distance. >> be safe. you all live together? >> yes, we do. >> report

reporter leanne melendez with all the details. >> reporter: parents wondering what their kids' summer will look like got some good news from mayor breed. >> june 15th we're going to start programming and we're going to extend the number of kids that we're able to serve. >> reporter: this includes day camps and programs offered by the rec and park department as well as private camps that operate in the city. every program will be modified to meet health requirements. children will be in pods of 12, and instead of the regular one-week session, those same 12 kids will be together for three weeks at a time. this minimizes commingling of children. >> for each pod, each pod requires a minimum of two staffpeople and staff cannot circulate between pods. so, again, for all you private camp providers out there, hire kids to help you this summer. >> reporter: priority will be given to children of parents who are allowed to work under the health order and to low-income use and those in vulnerable populations. >> we're going to reach out to those populations first, and then citywide, recreation fo
