. >> leanne caldwell joins me now from the hill.ed the pause button, but tell me about jeffrey clark. >> he is not a household name, but he is the former president's biggest advocate and ally inside of the justice department to try to get them to investigate what they say, what he says was a stolen election or to publicly say that the election was stolen. she eluded to what the committee and she was asked by then to take over the role of attorney general so they could issue a series of letters. so because they think that clark was instrumental in the pressure campaign in the department of justice which we know that ag resigned over, we know that clark is a big target for the select committee and they said they're going to give him saturday to prove himself and to appear before the committee. and if he wants to plead the 5th, he needs to do that in person and in an accurate way. they will need to see what will happen on saturday for next steps. >> democrat congresswoman zoe lofgren, and let's pick up right there. if jeffrey clark pic

. >>> joining us now is le eerks -- leann caldwell. what else did we hear from the president and other law marks that worked with bob dole through the years. >> the theme of those that spoke about bob dole today was civility and that he was a great man, a creature of the senate, and he loved the senate. those are the words we heard over and over again from speaker pelosi, leaders mcconnell, leader schumer as well. and all of the themes of the speech also tied into his experience and his background and how that influenced his time as a politician. the fact that he came from humble roots in russell, kansas and sometimes did not have access to food. later in his career he was instrumental in creating the modern day food stamp program that we know today. as well as his injuries, his life threatening injuries in world war ii later left him unable to use one of his arms. and a huge advocate in the disability community and that lead him to pass the americans with disabilities act in 1990. and those were things that he continued to fight for.

joining us now to discuss, leann caldwell, also with us glen kirshner. what's going to happen in the next few minutes? >> reporter: the rules committee is meeting. they're preparing a referral for criminal contempt for the full house to vote on. i will say the house is not scheduled to take that vote. so what the rules committee is doing, they're kind of assembling the casserole putting it in the freezer having it ready for when they are going to take that vote. the reason is house is holding off is because last night, 18 minutes before the january 6th select committee met to vote on this contempt referral, clark's attorney sent a letter to the committee saying, wait a minute, we will appear before the committee, he will likely plead the fifth but he will come. so the committee says, you have to come on saturday. and so, they are giving clark a few more days to comply with the committee recommendation or demand that he has to appear before the committee. so that newly scheduled deposition is set for saturday. if he does not show up or if the committee is
