leanne melendez is live tonight. >> reporter: it's been so long many people say we don't miss the underground.a.r.t. restro restrooms. given a chance they would love to have an area they call comfort zone. you've seen the large metal doors. >> i can't remember they've been closed so long. >> reporter: they have a warning saying the bathrooms are closed for security reasons since 9/11. >> they're restroom's at the underground stations and been locked ever since. >> reporter: at today's meeting they seemed more receptive to redesigning and remodeling the old bathrooms at two station, 19th street at oakland and powell station in san francisco. unlike the old ones, these would not be single bathrooms, instead, they would have separate stalls and the sink would be on the outside. >> we want to prevent people from doing crimes in our restrooms and overall misuse and abuse. we find people wash their clothes in a toilet or wash needles in a toilet. >> reporter: if approved the new facilities would be within the line of sight of a station agent booth. >> if it's not a problem of security, i would like
