ed lee is leading the polls right now.re is still a possibility that he could lose that lead. >> well, it is possible. and in this situation, because we have now no longer ranked choice voting we're in the phase called instant runoff voting the computer will tabulate by looking from the bottom up, the 15th place candidate who got 196 votes, it eliminates people from the bottom and redistributing those same votes that went to courier for first place, those voters also made seconds and thirds. and so it will begin by grabbing those seconds and redistributing them to all other 14 candidates to see if that gets over 50% plus one. since he only had 196 votes, that won't decide it. the computer will work from the bottom up to decide it. you don't know where the second place votes will come from. the third will probably never get counted because you eliminate votes from the bottom. >> let's talk about the reason that we have ranked choice voting, the idea behind it that you don't have to have a runoff election saving money but wh

mayor lee is the first asian- american mayor in the city's history. 2010, mayor lee was appointed to second term by mayor newsom. his appointment at the time was confirmed unanimously by the board of supervisors. as city administrator, he spearheaded reform that would be reduced the size and cost of government, from reducing the vehicle fleet, to consolidating departments, to saving tax dollars. he implemented the city's move to cleaner vehicles and infrastructure to support electric vehicles. mayor lee also developed and oversaw implementation of his first 10-year capital plan, to guide our capital and infrastructure investment. mayor lee has a long and distinguished career in san francisco. since 1989, has held a number of senior leadership positions. he is a fellow cal graduate. as you probably all know, last tuesday, november 8, the people of san francisco elected edwin lee in his own right, to serve as mayor of san francisco. let me say, on a personal note, the day before the election, i was having coffee at my favorite cafe in glen park, and lost in my e-mail, whatever i was do

mayor lee 23. there's a couple that are up in the office area, the fibrogen building that are probably -- i'm counting that he wasn't. there have been 35 total over time. some have gotten bigger and moved into larger quarters. some have venture owners that want them out of the city of san francisco and down the peninsula. some had to downsize. couldn't raise more money. so the picture has been one that's very dynamic. we would expect about 50% growth year over year. in the number of companies. internally, i would guess that a third of the companies would grow in the space they have inside the building. so it's burgeoning. it's not just doing ok or getting by. it's a place where we reached an equilibrium. it's a turnover and a huge amount of demand out there for amount of demand out there for the resource.

mayor lee: thank you for your work on the mta. i agree needs to find a way to achieve cost sufficiency is for muni, but i do not know reducing mta work orders is the way to do it. a work order is simply an agreement to provide services. reducing recorders will mean mta has to provide services, which in just about all cases will be in areas where they do not have a core competency. either that or they will have to purchase those services from elsewhere, potentially through third-party vendors. it is not as if a reduction in work orders will necessarily lead to a commensurate decrease the need for services to keep the new system running efficiently. one more quarter targeted for reduction is the work order for the san francisco police department traffic division. mta gives some money to the traffic division for assistance for officers managing the streets and effectively, which increases muni travel speeds. producing this work order would reduce the sfpuc -- reducing this work order reduce the asset -- sfpd is on the streets. this w

what did you learn about harper lee and her reasons? >> well, i was fortunate enough to get great access to two very close friends of her. a new york city couple who gave their friend, harper lee, money. they remain very, very close dear friends to this day. the other person i was also very privileged and fortunate to talk to was alice finch, harper lee's older sister. alice is one of the first women in alabama who was ever admitted to the bar. she -- at 99 she's the oldest practicing attorney in the state. she continues to practice every day, and she hopes to celebrate her 100th birthday in september at her law desk. she was quite a character and told me quite a bit about how the lee girls were raised. and her answer to that question is, she quoted her sister saying, she couldn't top what she had done. she had nowhere to go but down. and i think the combination of this kind of overwhelming thing, the somewhat autobiographical nature of what was written about and not to disappoint yourself let alone the other people out there waiting fo
