so, let's take that question over to chief meteorologist lee goldberg, he is back with us tonight from our new york station wabc. lee, you are tracking the major storms in the west and the severe weather in the south. first, though, that big question, will there finally be a white christmas for new york city? >> reporter: rachel, you heard erielle, if it sticks around. we have an inch on the ground now, but we're above freezing for half the night. so, the measure tomorrow morning at 7:00 may have to be in the spirit of giving. it's going to be awful close. we have a white christmas in the northern rockies and northern plains. fargo, over to the twin cities, take i-90 east, you have in syracuse, and then up into northern new england. we've got more snow coming into the west. there are two more storms that will slam the coast over the next few days. we could have up to a foot of snow in the intermountain west, four feet in the washington cascades, and up to six inches of rain along the immediate coastline with more wave action. the other trouble spot, the severe weather across texas. dal

let's get right to chief meteorologist lee goldberg from wabc here in new york. lee, time out the snow, the high winds, of course, coming to the northeast. new york city even bracing for this. >> reporter: indeed, david. not all clippers created equal. this one's high impact. we've got winter weather alerts that go from the upper midwest all the way into the northeast. and that includes lake snow warnings and even a blizzard warning. now, the heaviest snow is moving from the great lakes into the northeast tonight. in fact, by morning, we could have some snow squalls just northwest of the i-95 corridor. some coastal rain and some of the heavier snows start to move into northern new england. then it's all about the winds behind this arctic front. some gusts to 50 miles an hour. could be damaging. watch out for the holiday decorations. make sure they are secured. this is carrying in some really fierce arctic air. sub-zero wind chills by morning in chicago. feels like 4 below. the core of this cold will be right here in new york city by friday into the start of the we

chief meteorologist lee goldberg back with us from wabc, to time it all out for us. hey, lee. >> reporter: hey, david. that storm is taking shape in the plains and in the midwest right now. and we have flood watches out from memphis to nashville. snow and ice in the lower lakes. now, that low moving from kentucky to maryland during the day tomorrow. so, by the end of the day, you've got some of the steadier rain approaching the i-95 corridor. it looks like a quick soaker, and the snow and ice in upstate new york and into northern new england. you could see a half foot of snow for some of the ski areas. there's a second system, a clipper in the northern plains that could drop a half foot of snow, and that's the clipper that has the key to the arctic air. and that's plunging into the great lakes and northeast over the weekend. could bring a little snow here in new york city friday night. but you're looking at sub-zero wind chills, and the cold is diving deep into the south, all the way down to florida. the recovery will be slow into christmas. david? >> david: lee, gre

so, let's get right to chief meteorologist lee goldberg, he's with us tonight from our new york station wabc. hey, lee. >> reporter: hi, rachel. and those frigid temperatures in place mean the overnight snow into christmas eve, that's all going to stick. we've got a couple of inches of snow across wisconsin and michigan. and the storm strengthening a little bit, right now into the overnight. meaning we get several inches of snow into northern new england. that snow is right to the i-95 corridor by the morning hours. i could see some coatings to an inch all the way down to the coast. we are concerned about winter weather alerts in philly, baltimore, and d.c. for a glaze of ice. be super careful with your travel in the morning hours. and then to that storm in the west. this is clobbering the west coast with several inches of rain. we could see up to a half foot of rain. and over a foot of snow in the central sierra, as that moves eastward. a nice chris may day snow in the rockies, 1 to 3 inches. how about the white christmas? we're going to see it in the upper midwest and great lakes, and
