ryan dougherty, stanley and lee grace dougherty are all in custody at a local hospital after a high-speed chase. fbi agents in colorado have been on high alert after getting a report that they were spotted yesterday in the area. joining me now by phone is nbc's miguel almageur. this came about because they were spotted buying camping supplies. >> reporter: several tips were followed by investigators not far from where the accident happened. it was described as a spectacular crash that ended this entire cross-country chase by police. they have confirmed that the three fugitives, the so-called dougherty gang, has been arrested after not only a high speed pursuit but a shootout and, of course, that reckless and dangerous crash. now the three were seen in colorado springs on tuesday. then their car was spotted on a local highway a short time later. that led officers to a campsite where they believe the dougherty gang had been apparently camping overnight, and they said that they had abandoned that site. officers were along i-25 when they say one of their cruisers spotted the suspects' vehicle

police say 21-year-old ryan dougherty, his sister lee grace dougherty, 29, and 26-year-old half-brotherougherty stanley escaped when they shot out a police car's front tire. >> i thank god the officer is safe, the deposition tuties inv okay. >> reporter: authorities believe the trio is responsible for a brazen bank robbery hours later in voaldosta, georgia, firing shots in the ceiling and ordering everyone to the floor. the bandits escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. >> we're not talking about three youths driving around the state of florida, we're talking about three violent people who have a tendency to kill a police officer. >> reporter: the three have troubled pasts. ryan was convicted as a sex offender for sending explicit text messages to an 11-year-old girl. a posting on a flickr page says she loves to shoot guys and wreck cars. i'm a redneck and proud of it. causing mayhem with my siblings. now their mother barbara bell has urged her children to turn themselves in. ryan sent her an ominous message. >> he's actually texted her saying in the past couple of days at one poi

as you mentioned police have been looking for the so-called dougherty gang for six days now. there's 29-year-old lee grace and the two brothers. the two have led police on a high speed pursuit reportedly shooting at an officer 20 times in florida. from five hours later reportedly robbed a bank in georgia. investigators have been on their tail ever since then. there's been a nationwide manhunt for them. their face and images have been plastered on billboards from texas to florida. now we're hearing news after being spotted in colorado by several witnesses at a local catching store in colorado springs, they have been captured about 90 miles to the south of colorado springs near the city of pueblo. authorities say at least two of them have been captured. again there are some preliminary reports, reports not yet confirmed by nbc news that the third suspect has also been taken into custody. again, all of this has happened without the exchange of gunfire according to authorities on scene. >> we'll wait to hear about the third suspect. my understanding is when they caught the two the third one took off on foot.

dougherty siblings are growing. now including attempted murder and assault on a police officer in colorado. the trio of siblings, you have dylan, ryan and lee gracef these picture, appearing in the county court where these charges have now officially been filed. they are also wanted for an alleged bank robbery and attempted murder in the southeast. and you've heard of dash cams. now cameras on police officer uniforms. pretty much everything officers on duty will be recorded, can be used as evidence against potential suspects. these cameras are being used by police in desoto, texas, in their small $800 devices. they attach on to the officers' uniform and record what police dash board cameras cannot. call it a disturbing sign of the times. according to the american tekenl club this year alone, dog thefts have risen 32%. 222 dogs have been stolen during the first seven months of this year. that's compared to 150 during the same period last year. the akc says most dpogs are stolen right out of homes, out of pet stores, some even taken out of cars. large breeds like pit bulls are stolen the most. and hotels expect to lose a couple of towels to guests.
