there he's pictured after the war with lee miller.as salonge, put in concentration camp and survived the war. his husband put into a different concentration camp did not. there was a lot in the book how conde desperately tried to save people. how he spent any cash that he had in sending care packages to the british as well, including at that point to his former wife. conde died in september, 1942 of heart failure, essentially. and there's a very touching story that edna chase wrote about the last days with him which i do include in the book. he died virtually without any money. his first wife clarisse had an apartment on east 72nd street which conde had bought for her outright. they worked together for the benefit of the grandchildren and he was always wonderful to her and very generous. he and leslie remained very good friends after his death. frank was the only member of the "vanity fair" team who came out on top. he sold his conde nast shares on the eve of literally, i think on september the 8th, right before the stock market crash

david lee miller in the middle of all that. hey, david lee.orter: across the state of new york, there are now nearly 139,000 people who have tested positive for the coronavirus. that number surpasses the number of people infected in italy and it accounts for about one-third of the people infected in the entire united states. that said, we got a mixed message today during his daily briefing from the new york governor andrew cuomo. the governor said the state saw its largest single day increase in the number of fatalities from the coronavirus, but he did caution that that is a lagging indicator because patients are often hospitalized for some time before dying. he pointed out that although new hospitalizations are up, the average three-day hospitalization rate is down. he said icu admissions are also the lowest in 17 days. cuomo says the new york state health department has approved antibody testing which will make it possible to tell who has recovered from the virus, and that's crucial to planning for the restoration of the economy. >> how do y

david lee miller is live outside of mount sinai hospital. >> good morning.e mayor heard about that funeral in brooklyn, he was so outraged that he had to go see it for himself. when mayor de blasio got to the scene, there were hundreds of orthodox jews packed into the streets to pay final respects to a rabbi. some of them were face masks but the state 6-foot social distancing rule was ignored. the mayor called for summonses to be issued and the arrest of violators. despite the mayor's demand at the nypd said no citations were issued. the group responded by saying they were unfairly singled out and the state did nothing when a large crowds gathered to see flyovers of military jets honoring health care workers. and just last day another 335 new yorkers died of the virus but that number is less than half of what it was during the height of the crisis earlier in the month. new york state continues to make plans to reopen its economy. governor andrew cuomo at its daily briefings that there will be what he calls circuit breakers based on infection and hospitalizat
