lee saunders, let me start with you.this labor day at a time when too many americans are out of work, how healthy is organized labor? >> we have taken our hits over the past two and three years especially in the public sector where we've had very, very right wing conservative governors steal our voices away from us, take collective bargaining away from us in wisconsin. scott walker limited our right to bargain and have a union. john kay sick tried to do the same thing in ohio. we were able to beat him back by more than a 2-to-1 margin. what doing now is mobilizing, organizing and educating our members. this is possibly the most important election organized labor has been faced with for many many years. we've under attack like never before and we have to fight back. >> ifill: mr. hoffa, here we are in north carolina, probably the least unionized state in the country. organized labor has made it clear that they weren't particularly happy with this choice. are you still unhappy? >> it is what it is. we're here and we're goi

new president lee saunders. and a point that i made and i just like your comments on it.s important as it is to re-elect barack obama that's not enough. to have a president in the white house without a congress to work with is going to prevent him from really accomplishing what we want him to accomplish in the next four years. so talk to us about just briefly -- how important is it to hold on to the senate and to get back the house. i think the american people have to understand, it has to be the full package. >> it is very important because look, look what we've seen for the last two parties since the tea party republicans took over the house. absolutely total obstruction. of course, mitch mcconnell infamously said their top priority was not jobs, not the economy but defeating the president. that's the attitude they've all brought. their view is if they can block the president somehow the voters will reward republicans. and you know what? it is backfiring because the voters want us to make progress and they want us to make some tough decisions. they want us to compromise
