leeann melendez has the story. >> reporter: doppleres huerta never asked for permission to rally for migrant workers and she and cesar chavez pushed for what they believe in. in 1988 she was betten by police in a protest in san francisco. >> we'll change the world. and we save the world. >> reporter: today that same city honored her by renaming a school after the civil rights activist. it was a vindication of sorts. >> very grateful and at the same time humble. >> reporter: the soid yeah surfaced years ago. >> but i kept pushing it and people started listening and others started pushing it more than i did and finally the principal here with his community, they pushed. >> reporter: huerta came up with one of the most popular phrases in america. she was also there the night robert kennedy was shot in 1978. she was awarded the presidential medal of freedom, the highest award in the united states. she told me the struggle towards equality and justice has never ended. >> young people are the forefront and people of color and we are going to see a change in our society and it is happening

have gone on strike, and this time in new haven covering union city and hayward, and here is leeann melendez with the report. >> hey, hey, ho, ho, where did all of the money go? >> reporter: for teachers in the new haven school district an increase in pay would help to offset the price of their health care insurance which comes out of the pockets. >> it goes up every year and the family of four pays $23,000 or $24,000 a year and this is out of our salaries. >> and teachers have never been on strike here. >> and i hoped that it would not come to this and it is sad to know it has come to this morning. >> the district has offered a 3% bonus for the first year, and a 1% raise for the second. last night, the district felt moved slightly. >> we added contingency language that said that if the revenue comes in higher that we will give the additional half a percent or the 1% ongoing raise. >> any revenue is unlikely, because the district has said it will experience declining enrollment, and the funding is based on the enrolled students. >> not too many kids showed up here, and what are they doing in
