closer to the lehigh valley and the poconos, mainly snow. so we're watching as the snow continues to transition from the northern parts of our area to the southern parts. but it is going to take a while as we head into the rest of your morning hours. so closer to 5:00 6:00 that's when we'll start to see most of the snow just to the south of philadelphia. but it will not be until 7:00, 8:00 in the morning that we see the snow changing over in atlantic city and also stretching into cape may. but once this system gets going, we are going to see most of the accumulating snow in south jersey just to the north of the shore. philadelphia's going to pick up four to seven inches. and we'll see our least amounts closer to the poconos in the lehigh valley. so that's unusual for us. those are normally the locations that see the most snowfall. by 6:00 p.m. we start to see the snow tapering off, which is a good thing as you head home from work. you will notice our temperatures will drop down into the low 20s by 9:00 10:00 at night. it's going to stay that

poconos, lehigh valley 4 to 7 inches. across philadelphia, delaware county chester county much of bucks county and montgomery county and in through mercer county. 6 to 9 inches much of new castle county northern part of kent county in delaware salem, gloucester county camden county in new jersey. a lot of places in new jersey will get decent amounts of snow. the lower amounts, 2 to 4 inches, in places like northampton, easton the 4 to 7 in downingtown, malvern, havertown, abington also in mt. holly, new jersey. and the jackpot, most likely middletown delaware tuckerville, and clayton. of course, these numbers could change a little bit as we head through the afternoon and nighttime. now, the wild cards with this storm, every storm is different. this one, one of the things we're watching the sleet. how much of the storm will be sleet. the more sleet you get, the less snow. cold air pushing south. there's bitter cold air over the great lakes. a lot of dense air when it's cold. that sometimes pushes things farther south than

lehigh valley we may still see some icing, even later tonight. first thing in the morning, the temperature is up enough so that any roads are just wet. we have a rainy day tomorrow. just a nasty rainy day but at least it's mild by comparison. and not real, real heavy rain. it's heavy enough to make it a nasty day. that's part two. and then here comes part three. as colder air comes down from the north, it changes over to perhaps, sleet and then snow. that darker blue indicating some fairly heavy snow accumulating snow that is coming during the day on thursday. and the greatest amount of snow right through the middle of the area. a little bit lesser amounts to the north. 3 to 6 inches up toward the lehigh valley. but 6 inches or more across much of the area with a little bit less farther to the south. we'll fine tune this update it. that 6 inches or more, we'll give you a top number as we get a little closer. temperatures going up tonight. maybe staying around freezing north and west as we get that change to rain. a rainy day tomorrow. milder than

a coating up to about 2-inches across the northern and lehigh valleys. the problem is after the snow we get that changeover to ice up to about a 10. >>> of an inch of ice. that will cause a slow evening commute. then it's not over. then on wednesday a transition to rain before colder air moves in thursday morning the potential for heavy snow. this could be significant. i'll talk more about that coming up in the full accuweather forecast. jim. >> thank you cecily. >>> let's switch live to allentown and lehigh valley correspondent walter perez. walter what's penndot doing to get ready for this trifecta rain, snow and ice. >> reporter: that's right, jim, the big three moving our way for sure and it's coming after such a sunny day across the region but with a little bit of fortune this will be winter's last gasp. spring officially begins in less than three weeks. but old man winter is apparently going down swinging. the next few days are expected to bring a little of everything that winter has to offer including ice. and so when we asked penndot spokesperson

a a few shade of pink across lehigh valley and pocono region. you may have more chance to see this still freezing over on contact on those areas roadways like i80 78, watch out for that. otherwise, road are wet and it is a much quicker commute for you as opposed to what we would find if we had ice. all sorts of pretty colors with these winter weather alerts. we have winter weather advisories through lehigh valley and poconos right now. they last until 6:00 a.m. but these are all alerts that take effect later on tonight for impending snow that has yet to come. since it is mild are and we are in the warm sector of the storm system we will have fog off and a on rain and drizzle will anytime today maybe some breaks too but would i keep that umbrella at the ready. you can see we are down to half mile in ac still holding tough at 5 miles in philadelphia but i have a a feeling these will be ever changing throughout the morning. expect that. a lot of moisture, in our atmosphere right now. temperatures are above freezing almost every where. we are in the

lehigh valley maybe about to end in that area pretty soon. and then a lot of bucks, montgomery, chester, parts of berks, in the 6 to 10 inch range. had to expand that to the north. and kept it high in new castle county and across river, new jersey. haven't had necessarily a whole lot of snow here yet, but there are a lot of more hours to come. same thing in central delaware. and much of south jersey. 4 to 7 inches. not much yet, hey, not going to stop snowing until 7:00 8:00. 3 to 5 inches farther to the south. visibility tells us how heavy the snow is reading a quarter. that's heavy. mount holly, still a quarter. allentown, not quite as low. so maybe starting to taper off a little there. still low visibility wilmington, philadelphia northeast philly pottstown, atlantic city now, moderate to heavy snow millville, significant snow. even dover significant snow. the temperatures are right near the freezing point there. so mostly melting. look at that 21 in allentown and reading. 22 in pottstown. down to 28 in philadelphia. this is just brutal. a

if you're closer to the poconos, lehigh valley that's all snowfall coming down. you can see the blue and the purple that's mainly snow. we start to see the pink line more of a transition there with rain mixing into the snow. and that's going to affect wilmington stretching out to philadelphia, mount holly, out to toms river and you'll notice between 3:00 to 6:00 more rain warmer air mixing in with the system. so we're going to see more of a transition. mainly green for atlantic city stretching out to cape may and that's mainly rainfall that is going to be coming down with this system. you'll notice most of it moving out, 8:00 9:00. then we could see a little bit of drizzle and because our temperatures you'll notice are close to freezing or below freezing, if we get drizzle coming down with the temperatures very cold we could see a little bit of freezing drizzle and slippery icy spots on the roadways. be very careful at least until 8:00, 9:00. timeline, noon to 3:00 p.m. heavier snow expected for us. by 3:00 to 6:00 more of a transition with snow still coming down

particularly the lehigh valley poconos as this moves in around five 6:00 a.m. few areas of light freezing drizzle north of the city. not a bad looking afternoon sunshine with high pressure in control for monday. we'll get back above 50 degrees. our next storm comes in tuesday much this will spread some more clouds through the first half of the day. late tuesday afternoon through the night we'll see around of some rain. temperatures little bit cooler because of the cloud cover in the 40s. that storm is gone by wednesday. we're back into the 50s with more sun shy. so let's time things out for you. here's that little dash bans that rolls on through this is 6am early on monday morning. some showers north of the city may be a little frozen precipitation up nearly a len town and the poconos could be light freezing rain or maybe a few flurries mick the in there. by the afternoon mostly sunny skies, nice mild day. here come the clouds for tuesday tuesday. this is noon. we're still dry. it's late in the afternoon and evening we'll start to see some rain moving into the

bring the colder air down and switch us over to snow at 7:00 in southern areas and really in the lehigh valley it starts at midnight. from 10:00 p.m. until 1:00 in the morning we flip from rain to snow and in and around philadelphia and 20 miles to the northwest and south and east to i-95, 1:00 until 4:00 in the morning, not until central delaware and southern new jersey from 4:00 until 7:00 in the morning, so it's during the rush hour that we start to see the snow mixing in and changing over. so the travel concerns are major with that heavy snow falling across much of the area, tomorrow evening's commute, lighter snow will still be falling especially south of philadelphia moderate delays with snow accumulation on the ground but less intensity of that falling from the sky, in the morning no snow is falling it will be long gone and temperatures go to near record lows, early on friday morning, creating minor problems for that rush hour. when cecily tynan comes back she'll talk about the accumulation and we kind of kept things here and there is a bull's-eye and she will have that coming up

gloucester, camden, parts of burlington county and all areas north and west including philadelphia, the lehigh valley and all of our suburbs for snow changing over to sleet and ice. icing is the main concern with the first wave of this storm system. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing this low pressure is well out to the wiest between salt lake city and den veer. there's a piece of upper level energy that will start to enhance this low and that low pressure will head up across the great lakes. so, what this will eventually do is pull in some warmer air on wednesday before colder air returns on thursday. but when that moisture moves in it's cold enough that this will begin as frozen precipitation when it first moves in in the afternoon, it will begin as snow then changing over to sleet and freezing rain. the problem not the amounts. the problem is that this will be occurring during the tuesday evening commute. this is what to expect tomorrow morning should be fine just a little bit of a refreeze in the morning between three and 11 o'clock tomorrow night this is when we get a light around p

it does encompass the city every philadelphia, montgomery bucks counties into the lehigh valley. here's y we have this little area of wet weather that's going to be moving on through during the remainder of the morning, here is a look at 6:00 a.m. you can see, light showers starting to push in from the north, and west, snow up in the pocono region. watch what happens to this ban of precipitation pretty muscle falls apart. 7:00 a.m. off to the north. by 9:00 or 10:00 a.m. it is gone. notice what happens at noon. clear skies all across the region, so it will turn out to be much nicer afternoon. stormstorm scan3 shows where it is, blob every moisture, pink shading here. temperatures specially north of the city are still below freezing, even though they are above freezing in philadelphia but the road surface is very cold. watch out for some icy spots to form, especially untreated surfaces bridges overpasses, just with this little bit of freezing drizzle moving through right now. again you can see it is mainly south of allentown watch for slick spots perhaps on 476 northeast extension
