sunshine will brighten the lehigh valley. it's already nice and bright in lehigh valley.pper 70s at 10:00. 88 degrees at 2:00. even warmer at 4:00 this afternoon for the lehigh valley. no showers or thunderstorms first thing in new jersey. sunny skies to start with. 84 degrees this afternoon. up to 87 degrees at 2:00. and at the shore, a southerly wind, so that will keep temperatures lower. but still in the 80s for the shore today. while delaware warms into the upper 80s after a sunny start, the weekend forecast, that's looking downright hot. in fact, dangerous heat as the temperatures soar into the upper 90s for philadelphia. the suburbs will see mid-90s for saturday and sunday. a bit hotter in the lehigh valley. south jersey and delaware, it will feel more like 100 degrees thankings to the high heat. and it continues on monday. there's a possibility we'll get showers and thunderstorms to drop temperatures at some point during the day on monday. i'll take a look at the ten-day outlook. the ten-day on ten when i come back in a few minutes. >>> all right, bill. 20 minutes

. >> yeah, jim, a couple of severe thunderstorms through parts of the lehigh valley. if you look at the radar, most are going through the lehigh valley and parts of burks county and that's where you see the yellow shaded area, and that's a severe thunderstorm warning. we'll zoom in right now with one thunderstorm into lower parts of montgomery county and burks count knee the lehigh valley into the poconos, that's a severe thunderstorm warning until 4:45. a lot of lightning and heavy rain. could see winds near 60 miles per hour. heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding and the possibility for some hail. now, as far as lightning strikes are concerned, in the past 15 minutes alone we've seen 716 lightning strikes. this storm is going to move straight east so over carbon and monroe counties currently and through the lehigh valley and whitehall township seeing very heavy rain from it. aside from that the entire area is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 8:00 tonight. if you're in the philadelphia area and points north. south of that, reports through south jers

we'll take a look at the lehigh valley because right now one strong thunderstorm is moving in here andrds the allen town area right near lehigh heading into northampton county, but there's a lot of lightning in this storm and there's very heavy rain and potentially damaging winds near 60 miles an hour. this rain could be falling at a rate of about 2 to 3 inches per hour. it's a pretty fast mover here. very strong winds in the north white hall township, across 476 and heading towards white hall, allen and east allen and we'll see the bottom edge of this storm and we could be dealing with hail in this storm as well, so this is one strong thunderstorm. we have a severe thunderstorm warning out for it for parts of burks county. going to be lehigh hand northampton counties until 6:15 and with any strong storm if you're in the path of this thing, expect 60-mile-an-hour winds, lightning and heavy rain and possible hail. if you're in allentown you'll be seeing some of this by just about now, 5:45, richland 6:02 and doiltstown 6:22 so it's a pretty fast mover traveling to the southeast right ar

dry in the lehigh valley, 73 degrees, 68 degrees in the suburbs.his is where we'll likely see thunderstorms pop up this afternoon. this morning we're watching wet weather in delaware and south jersey. in philadelphia, with some scattered clouds, the temperatures are still cooling right now. overall it's running warmer than yesterday and it feels muggier and humidity will be with us through the day. look at wilmington, delaware, more clouds there. these clouds are just to the north of the rain. the radar and the satellite together shows it's dry in wilmington. but look just to the south at heavy rain that's moving through new castle county and now into new jersey, starting to rain in salem county, new jersey. heavy downpours that adjust to the north of smyrna and kent county are moving to the northeast at 20 miles an hour. will be crossing the delaware river and into new jersey this morning. not everybody is seeing the rain. it's not going to be an all-day rainfall. there's a chance we'll see storms, especially as we go into the noontime hours. this

it is. 101 right now is what it feels like in the lehigh valley.angerous heat there. 99 in philadelphia, 96 in reading, 95 in wilmington and it feels like 98 degrees in dover. this excessive heat is going to continue right into the upcoming weekend through monday with that warning in effect for wilmington, philadelphia, trenton. on either side of that i-95 corridor a watch ooh effect. really not much in the difference here between this watch and warning. everyone is going to feel this extreme heat with those heat indices in the upper 90's to low to mid 100's. so, as we take a look at the next five days here, these are air temperatures, 98 saturday, 95 sunday. a record high 99 on monday and still 95 tuesday and wednesday and when you take a look at some of these impressive numbers, the last time we hit 97 or 98 degrees in philadelphia it's been three years. we are forecasting that high of 99 which means it has been since 2012 that we've been this hot with those air temperatures. we'll talk more about the heat indices and if there's any relief at all

91 in lehigh valley. not a whole lot of relief around here. there's one or two showers in sussex county, delaware, and that's about it. we have more significant activity way back to the west. it's going to take a while before we get any cooling thunderstorms out of this. but the heat wave, yeah, and the humidity on top of that, that's what's making it feel really bad. 94 degrees, feeling like 98. it's going to get worse. it's going to get hotter tomorrow and friday, up near 97, with the higher humidity feeling hike about 104. by saturday, 95, feeling like close to 100 degrees. about the only way we cool off is with thunderstorms. we expect some to start developing tomorrow afternoon. kind of scattered around. not everybody getting it. lower chances in southern delaware, and at the jersey shore. by 10:00 tomorrow night, things are quieting down again. then the heat of the day on friday. along with the high humidity helps to trigger some afternoon activity. and maybe even into friday evening with this syste
