good morning, leigh. >> reporter: good morning. well, it's raining again, and the sinkhole is still here. started out last week. some joggers showed up, and i think they wanted to get a better look at it, and looks like they gave up over there. a fence is around it. it big enough to swallow a van, is what we were told. but public works can't seem to get this thing fixed here on minor street, so they blocked off the road. could be another week until it's fixed, and across the bay area, people are preparing for more safety problems that could come with another storm. well, the orinda sinkhole here opened up last week after one storm. it measured 25 feet wide to 10 to 12 foot deep. public works crews say two broken sewer lines and a pg&e gas line have been rerouted above ground. city officials say it's not known if the sinkhole broke the sewer lines, or if the sewer lines oke and caused the sinkhole in and around marin county yesterday, the atkins have lived through 40 rainy north bay winters. they weren't taking any chances, and pack

leigh martinez is in orinda where the giant ant sink hole is. >> reporter: good morning. we have an update for you. public works just showed up and tells us that the sink hole could get bigger. their job today and unfortunately we can't get in there right now. they will give us a tour later. what they're doing now is putting pumps in in case we get more rain so it can pump it out of the sink hole. the only concern right now is the water main. they say the water main is still in there. they had to reinforce it the other day so it doesn't break if more erosion occurs. the lines were already put above ground. this could be another week before it is all fixed. this isn't the only weather hainbay. give you a look at the orinda sink hole from the other day. it measures up to 25 feet wide, 10 to 12 feet deep. public works crews say that two sewer lines broke and that the pg&e gas line has been rerouted to above ground. city officials say it is not known if the sink hole broke the sewer lines or if the sewer lines broke and caused the sink hole. they are trying to prevent more da

as ktvu's leigh martinez reports city crews are i--- trying to stabilize a hillside on a shaughnessy boulevard. >> reporter: local jogger says he's lived here for 20 years and has never seen rocks tumble down off the hillside onto o'shaughnessy. but that is the threat and the reason why public works has shut down o'shaughnessy from its base of the hill at malta up to potrero and public works says it won't be until friday afternoon until this road is reopened. crews were rappelling down the hillside and were probing and pushing off loose smaller rocks. there was one huge piece that was loose and threat of coming down. so they had to force that down this afternoon with a geological hamper. if they don't do this now, more heavy rain this week could bring those rocks down on their own and they don't want the rocks falling down onto vehicles or pedestrians. >> january 10th, rock did come falling down and landed on the road itself. we had to close the road at the time. to clear the debris. since then we've had geologists evaluating the slope and they determined there was some major pieces

. >> leigh martinez took a trip to the shelter to see how staff and the dogs are coping. >> reporter: water started rushing in and over paws sunday morning. >> around 5:30 in the morning they called to tell us we were being flooded and it wasn't stopping into four inches of water covered all of green dog rescue project. dogs roam free and not in cages. many dogs were stressed in the cold water. >> she was just standing, shaking, stressed. where some of the other dogs may have gotten up on the furniture, she was overwhelmed. >> reporter: staff and local volunteers came with shop vacs and mops but the damage was done. >> anything in a box that was on the ground, dog beds, dog blankets, food, treats, toys. >> reporter: as well as furniture, medicine and two computers. the total damage is well over $20,000. green dog doesn't sit in a flood zone. instead what happened is all of the rain runoff from the highway came through the big culvert behind this fence and straight through into the shelter. >> we're not in a flood zone. there was no reason to have flood insurance. >> staff is racing to
