leigh ann: let's switch topics to abortion. this is an issue that you have been critical of the republican party about. he said this issue is can -- is important to your constituents. you credit a lot of your win on this and listening to your constituents. last week, the house voted on a couple of abortion-related measures. if the party continues to overreach and go too far on the -- on abortion? rep. mace: they do at this step. we haven't learned anything and we have buried our heads in the sand, and we did what we always did, which was a service to the life movement. this is an issue i have said repeatedly over the last week, i represent a swing district. the vast majority of people i represent on either side of the aisle were not happy after roe v. wade was overturned. i am a pro-life member of congress, i have many exceptions, but i am willing to meet in the middle and find common ground. these votes are going nowhere in the senate. they are not doing anything for women. we need to be compassionate, especially toward women

leigh ann: the white house says it is not going to negotiate. if it does come to the brink, are you willing to let the country default? rep. mace: for someone who calls themselves a great unifier, that's not unifying. when you look at the overall congress, the white house should actually -- should absolutely be negotiated. the houses -- the house is controlled by republicans and the other is controlled by democrats. this is a time for us to work together. if we had a plan to rein in spending, balance the budget over the next decade without touching social security, which by the way, there is a sit -- there is a plan to do that, which senator rand paul filed in the senate. i have a version of it myself. but there are plans out there that are responsible, reasonable, and really hold everyone to account for the debt that has been hiked up for the last several decades. leigh ann: some republicans are talking about a debt prioritization plan, meaning that if the debt limit is reached, then perhaps th
