leland vitter has more from jerusalem. leland? >> the most interesting thing that happened today inside the courtroom is who didn't show up. none of the americans accused by the egyptian government came to answer those charges. here is the latest video from cairo where a number of egyptians who were rounded up and charged with the same crimes, namely operating an organization without a license and fueling public unrest. they appeared in court and when asked by the judge plead not guilty but ordered released until the trial in april. that decision outraged a lot of people in the courtroom today including some who wanted the group held and charged with espionage. of the 16 americans none of them showed up. a number left egypt awhile back and some others are holed up inside the u.s. embassy so it would be impossible for the military government to arrest them. the u.s. has harshly protested the charges against these people. the larger issue here is now a major rift between the egyptian government and the united states. a few years ago

leland vittert joins us now. he is live in jerusalem with this report what is the very latest there. good morning, leland. >> reporter: good morning, martha. speaking of the u.s. and the e.u., we saw video coming out of syria posted by activists in english were begging for help in terms of stopping the crackdown inside the city of homs. they say it is getting worse there. artillery barrages continue and very little water and electricity has been cut off and they are running out of medical supplies. they report about 100 people killed each day and rpg's and heavy artillery come flying in. yesterday the syrian government promised to stop the violence. today it seems as though they're doing anything but. martha: leland, the syrian government of course is heavily criticized for the actions that are being taken on the ground. have they started to fight back against those accusations in any way? >> reporter: it is interesting, for a while they kept saying it is terrorists causing all the violence but now they have star

leland, how bad is the situation?, simply put it could have been much, much worse. sources in the israeli ministry, the wife the israeli attache to india will survive the car bombing inside the capital of india. you look at the video, it is pretty bad what happened to the car. interestingly the bombers in india and georgia where they were able to defuse the bomb were able to drive up alongside the cars and attach a bomb from a motorcycle. that is exactly the same technique that assassins used in tehran to hit the iranian nuclear scientists over the past couple of years. now these were coordinated attacks. very clearly they required a lot of planning and a lot of logistical support. at least in india it happened very near to the indian prime minister's residence which is very secure area. so far israeli diplomats abroad have been told not to drive in any cars until they are checked by security. martha? martha: leland, yesterday was the anniversary of a high-ranking hezbollah officer. is there significance there? is the

leland vitter, thank you.ll, some new developments in the josh powell murder-suicide in washington state. police say just 20 minutes before powell blew up his home, killing himself and his two sons, he sent e-mails to his lawyer, his pastor, and other relatives. he also left this voice mail, played today on "good morning america". >> you know, i'm not able to go on anymore. i'm sorry to everyone i've hurt. goodbye. jenna: powell was a person of interest in his wife, susan's, disappearance in 2009. according to the medical examiner, the two boys, ages seven and five, also suffered hatchet wounds and axes were found near their bodies. just terrible details as they emerge. in those e-mails powell apparently sent, no mention of susan or what may have happened to her. there are still questions there. jon: with congressional approval at an all-time low, there's a shocking new report out today in the "washington post". one hint about its contents. well, it's not likely to help those congressional approval ratings. we
