i'm don lemon near ferguson, missouri. you're watching cnn's special coverage the grand jury here has reached a decision the most controversial case in this country. the killing of michael brown and we will know soon whether his death on august 9th will officially be labelled a crime. u.s. and local law enforcement officials say an announcement is expected later today. and as you know the grand jury of five women, seven men has been deliberating on whether white officer darren wilson should be charged for shooting michael brown a black teenager who was unarmed. the nine white and three black grand jurors have had the ability to see the coverage is your rouding this case. nine of the 12 must agree in order to indict wilson and we have a panel of legal minds to talk about this. first i want to get to cnn's justice reporter evan perez. he joins me now and to talk about the decision and when that will happen. i just want to say this. according to the michael brown family attorneys they have official notice. they said a verdict

cnn's don lemon on the ground in ferguson all night, he joins us this morning. good morning, don. >> good morning to you, carol, what a night it was and ma what a morning it is and will be for people just waking up here and assessing the damage to their homes, their businesses and really their communities. a community that really needs every single bit of business and good will that they can muster. a lot of that undercut last night by the violence and chaos you saw playing out here in ferguson. let's talk about this and what went on and the undercurrent here, whether it's racism or whatever it is. i want to go now to the reverend jesse jackson who is the president and ceo of the rainbow push coalition. he joins us flow chicago. reverend, good morning. awful what we saw playing out on television last night. >> well, it was chaos, but the looting preceded the shooting. we were there earlier in the year, it was very clear that that the unending consistent pain and neglect leads to anarchy and justice leads to peace. we must have some plan beyond focusing on fergus

we have more from don lemon. >> reporter: good morning, deb.t is expected the grand jury will reconvene today and possibly come to a decision. it had been said that each side or everyone would get a 48-hour notice as to a decision and when they announce the decision. we are hearing from evan perez saying they may not give the 48-hour notice. as soon as they reach the decision, an official might come out and say what that decision is. we are talking about whether officer darren wilson will be indicted or not in the shooting death of teenager michael brown. as far as the community here, one might think the streets of ferguson were on fire if you look at some of the media coverage. that indeed is not the case. yes, there are still protests going on. there are still angry protesters. not much violence, though. a few people arrested in the course of the protests. sometimes daily and sometimes not. usually 30 or 40 people have protests here every single night since the shooting happened. from the media coverage, you might get a different idea of what
