kpix 5 reporter len ramirez on the concerns over security today. len. >> reporter: kenny, people are already starting to line up here in downtown san jose for this large trump rally. supporters have been here for hours hoping to get an early place in like. due to the problems in previously rallies, there's been a number of people on the outside protesting his rallies and that presents a problem for san jose. san jose is short staffed with officers and the department had very little notice of the rally. >> it's frustrating to have events like this with a depleted department like we have. just to answer 911 calls on a regular day we have many, many officers here on our days off being held over past their shift. today everybody is working. all the detective bureau, investigations are stopped, people are working, you know, 16-hour days for an exhaustive police force. this is devastating. >> so the police department will be calling just about all officers available to be here with mutual aid from neighboring departments and the santa clara county sheriff

kpix 5's len ramirez was in the middle of it all last night and says on this day after, there is a lot of finger-pointing >>> reporter: outrage over the violence and lawlessness on the streets of san jose. >> the behavior existent by some protestors last night was reprehensible. >> reporter: one supporter wearing a build the wall t- shirt was stripped and assaulted by several men just one of several attacks on people attending the trump rally as they tried to walk to their cars. [ screaming ] >> reporter: or drive away from the event. >> the violence that occurred last night was not and will not go unchecked. >> reporter: san jose police chief eddie garcia announced a task force to crack down on and arrest the attackers caught on camera but much of the criticism is leveled at police. social media lit up with angry tweets. steven rogers called for the chief to be fired and trump america called for a san jose boycott. one trump supporter said his rights were taken away. >> we all have the right to make a decision without the fear of violence. and this feels like a very violent situation.

kpix 5 reporter len ramirez is there and has learned that san jose police are scrambling to make sure that everything goes smoothly. len. >> reporter: scrambling is right. the san jose police department did not have a lot of time to prepare for this. so that means that a lot of officers who have already been working a lot of extra days and a lot of extra overtime have had even more hours added to their schedules. you can see some of the mutual aid they are getting from the sheriff's department. there's a line-up of several officers on crowd control. we can pan to the right a little bit. you can see some of the protestors who have started gathering. they are being kept far away in hopes of keeping the peace. >> trump for president! >> reporter: trump supporters started lining up 7 hours before the scheduled rally. >> i'm 52 years old. this is the first time in my life that i have been excited about a presidential election. >> reporter: she came down from antioch. she likes what trump has to say and doesn't believe the criticism. >> i think a lot of it is biased media. >> get 'em out of
