lena, i know it's difficult, especially these days to look forward and predict what might happen. this is the first u.s. strike on syria since the crisis and then the war began. it was a small pinprick but still, it was action. do you believe it will be significant? >> it's only significant for president trump. it's only distinguished himself from his predecessor. i think this is about president trump. he wanted to say, i am a president who means what i say. and he had said, chemical weapons are not acceptable. and he followed that with a very specific action. we should not read too much into this, as really, it's the beginning of a complete turnaround of the policy towards syria. >> right. but then, you have the government of bashar al assad. presumably they weren't expecting this because just a few days before, high-level american officials were telegraphing the message that they're fine with assad in power and the main priority is isis. this must change their calculus or not? >> it only changes the calculus in the sense that it shows that u.s. administration is not predictable.

. >> i think i will return to lena dunham later pit but i am wondering about the internet they goes hand in hand with what it is you're describing. >> absolutely. there are a few things that specifically relate to the internet. the big one is that online especially, when i was writing this and certain when i was writing a blog post that eventually an indirect way led to this i was talking about blog comment threads and us talk about the situations where people are actually know who one another are. they don't even, they don't know what another's real names but they also don't even know their general demographics. so i think it's very easy online to just kind of selectively present the details of your story to seem like you're the scrappy underdog, whether not a person realize would remotely think that's too big it's partly the anonymity. it's the anonymity but even when people know who one another are, there's a sort of not so kind nature to some online interaction with people just want to declare one another wrong. then i think the sort of the third aspect of this is online journalism a
