lena howland live in pleasanton this morning with what you can expect if you go out over the next feweeks. good morning. lena: good morning. great to be with you. today is the day that alameda county fair will open up its doors today at noon. we were lucky enough to get a sneak peek inside before anybody else. fair officials were kind enough to turn on those lights for some of these rides. for many people, it is the food that brings them back here year after year. for others, it's the carnival rides. the fair will feature pig racing and horse racing. the fair has a lengthy lineup up a big artists performing throughout the summer. jesse mccartney will take the stage on june 21. ashanti will perform on june 22. e-40 will be performing on june 29. country star leanne rimes will take the stage on july 6, just to name a few. keep in mind, concert tickets do not include fair admission this year so if you plan to attend a concert, you still need to purchase a general admission fair ticket or season pass to access the fairgrounds. doors open at noon today. the fair will be running through jul

abc 7 news reporter lena howland talked to someone who is proposing these tolls. >> increasing tolls by $1.5 over a five-year period. lena: agreeing to struggling agencies, state senator scott weiner says it is still not enough. sen. weiner: because it does not solve the problem, the bay area, we need regional help. lyanne: he is proposing a new bill that will raise the tolls on all bay area bridges, except the golden gate, by $1.50 for the next five years. keep in mind tolls at these bridges were already scheduled to increase by one dollar in january 2025. sen. weiner: that will generate a significant sum of money, to make sure that b.a.r.t. does not have to eliminate nighttime and weekend service for an entire line to make sure that muni does not eliminate 15 bus lines entirely. sen. glaser: i'm reminded of the quote, for me once, shame on you. for me twice, shame on me to have seen this story before. lena: state senator steve glazer opposes the plan. he said lawmakers were already asked to increase bridge tolls with the promise of oversight for transit agencies, including crating t

lena howlande, live at the scene, joining us with the very latest.ned inside of a home here it actually happened outside of our viewpoint right over here on the side of me. you can see there is a very heavy police presence, as their investigation is just getting started. a spokesman for richmond police tell us they were looking for a suspect accused of brandishing a firearm and possible discharge of the weapon on sunday night in the area after some type of altercation with a victim. after further investigation, a search warrant was issued for the home, the suspect was believed to be living in here on the 1200 hundred block -- the 1200 block around 9 a.m. this morning when police say they found the suspect inside of the home, armed with a firearm. it was shot and killed by police inside. we are told more than one officer fired the weapon, but it is still unclear how many. we will know -- no officers were hurt today. it is unclear if the suspect fired his weapon. >> they did encounter the suspect armed inside of the residence. unfortunately the suspect

abc 7 news reporter lena howland has more. lena: long before a titan submersible.ve people on the quest to see tannic wreckage lost documentation before later imploding came the early warning. >> we all told him, you know, someone is going to be killed in this thing, and you've got to not do it. lena: ocean gate ceo stockton rush needed visit to alameda back in 2015 while he was in the thick of building his submersible to meet with liz taylor. taylor is a deep-sea engineer and president of marine operations, where they build their own submersibles. he wanted to hear her findings from a research project. liz: stockton felt like he was pushing the edge, wanted to push the envelope. lena: th specifically advised against the use of carbon fiber, as it is still bei liz: it is hollow and has the tremendous pressure of the ocean trying to push in on it. it is not the right material. lena: in 2018, the main submersible committee of the marine technological society backed her up, writing a letter also urging rush not to proceed. big morning all warnings, he moved forward. l

dion: much appreciated to you and until we get those answers, let's get to abc7news reporter lena howland. she is across the street pier 39 where the shooting first broke out. what are you hearing coming from that scene? lena: police are still out right now investigating this active scene just steps away from pier 39. we are right across from that pier 39 parking garage. at this point in time as you heard from j.r., there was a gun battle that happened in front of pier 39 packed with people celebrating father's day weekend, involving this red pickup truck you see behind me where we are seeing multiple bullet holes through the driver's side window and also through the windshield of that car. multiple sources have confirmed to abc 7 around 6:50 this evening, somebody in a black suv shot at a white parked sedan. suv took off before leaving the city on a short chase bid sources believe someone in the white sedan fired around 20 shots, leaving shell casings scattered along the road in front of the pier 39 parking garage. we spoke to a number of witnesses, but for now we will toss it back over
