leon? leon: alison a d.c. police officer was honored today for stopping the gunman behind the washington navy yard shooting. dorian desantis received a congressional badge of bravery. jeanette reyes was in baltimore for the ceremony. jeanette: in a touching ceremony this morning he accepted the congressional badge of bravery for his life-saving actions during the navy yard attack. 12 people were killed and several others injured during that shooting rampage in september of 2013. officer desantis was one of many officers who responded. he fired the shot that killed gunman aaron alexis after taking a bullet in his vest. congressman elijah cummings, senator ben cardin and chief of police kathy lanier talked about the bravery, quick thinking and humility of officer desantis. >> this is about people needing your help and both sides of the door. trust me it's much more rewarding to be able to help people than be on the other side of the door. >> he's received numerous medals and commendations over the years. as you

leon: thank you, steve. developing in south carolina, a courtroom outburst from the man accused of a hate crime murder. >> [beep]. judge: take him out. leon: the police say that he shot and killed ron lane in north carolina because lane was gay. the defendant said that the man that he murdered was a child molester, but has not offered any evidence to that claim. in tulsa, oklahoma, a state lawmaker is calling for a review of the reserve deputy program after a volunteer officer admitted to mistaking his real gun for a stun gun and shooting an unarmed suspect to died. he is charged in the death of eric harris, who is being investigated for illegal gun sales. the tulsa county sheriff's office is looking into the matter, but state officials are demanding an independent review. alison: smoke alarms failed to activate during a house fire in arlington. the fire destroyed one home and damaged two houses next door. there were no injuries. the fire is under investigation and firefighters have a warning tonight. they s

leon: thanks. montgomery county police have released a surveillance video of a suspect wanted for a hate crime at a jewish temple. this video shows the person wearing the mask made popular by the movie "scream." they say that person painted swastikas in gaithersburg. montgomery county reporter kevin lewis will have more on this case coming up at 5:00. alison? alison: in d.c. police are looking for the person who shot a teenager to death. it happened last night on 37th street and southeast. police found 16-year-old luke holt of northeast suffering from gunshot wounds and he died at the hospital. police are asking anyone with information in this case to contact them. leon: about 25 minutes ago, fairfax water said a 14-inch break along route 1 in alexandria had been fixed but traffic congestion in the area does continue. right now, only one lane of traffic in each direction is open on richmond highway between fryload and highland lane. this morning eight town homes were affected by this break. residen
