. >>> leon harris here at the live desk. we've learned the death toll has jumped to 17 in those destructive mudslides in southern california. you're looking now at some new video that we've just gotten in. searchers pulled two more bodies out of an area in santa barbara county. 17 people remain missing tonight. hundreds of firefighters making their way through that muck and wreckage. three people were rescued today. authorities tell us they've searched about 75% of the devastated area. meanwhile, many families say they don't know if their loved ones are alive. >> hundreds of people have been rescued and evacuated. many of them having to be hoisted out of the area. >> i don't know how far she could have been swept. i don't know. >> i don't know where my parents are. it's a horrific feeling. >> just unimaginable heartbreak there. some people unaccounted for have been found safe. at last check the mudslides wiped out about 100 homes. hundreds more, though, were damaged. the painful search for the missing continues. and we will
