news4's leon harris is at our live desk tonight. emotions were running high tonight, leon. >> it really was an intense scene tonight in alabama where it becomes the only state to ban aborons at any stage since the supreme court decided roe v. wade back in 1973. the only exception for an abortion under this bill is if the woman's life is in danger. it does not include exclusions for rape and incest. it was a heated debate where senate lawmakers made the case for and against the measure. the alabama state house overwhelmingly approved the bill. it makes performing an abortion at any stage of pregnancy a felony and any doctor performing one could face 100 years in prison. they introducedther restrictions on a borgsz this year. four states oulawed abortions after six weeks of conceptions. >> the things were put out there about fear and now we can deal with what it actually does and move forward w and seehat happens. >> i apologizeto to in this state for not knowing whether or not they could help women with reproductive health care.th 's

news4's leon harris is working for you on what could happen if abortion laws are eve ually left up to state. >> this is an ongoing debate here. abortion lawsn d.c., maryland and virginia, they're all different. so let's start with d.c. and see w things are shaping up there. d.c. has one of the least restrictive abortion laws in the country. abortions don't require a licensed physician and they don't ha to be performed by a doctor in a hospital. maryland, however, a bit more restrictive. there women have protected access to the procedure, but it's required to be performed by licensed doctors, and at least one parent or guardian has to be made aware before a minor has an abortion in virginia. that's the most restrictive area in our region. we have limited access to abortion in virginia. women are required to wait a full day after counseling beforg havi an abortion, and many in the pro-choice community think that adding restrictions is a way to deter the procedure. pro-choice organizations now trying to make sure that they get candidates in office this november to removese the kinds of r
