right now leslie is in the atlantic. battering bermuda. breathing a collective sigh of relief, leslie had been forecast to hit the island, most of the storm missed it. you can see the center of the storm pass east of bermuda and leslie is not a direct threat to the united states, but even so, we are not in its path. some people along the east coast can still feel its effects and we want to look at what that looks like. maria molina in the extreme weather center. who might see some of it. >> harris, good to see you. and people who live along coastal areas and also down into the mid atlantic and leslie is a very large system. and fortunately, though, it's not really strengthened significantly and it's just a tropical storm and we've had dry air and trying to work its way into the center of the system and very large, it spans almost 500 miles from one end to the other end of the storm and that's really why it's so difficult for leslie to continue to strengthen and like you mentioned the storm stays to the east of bermuda from the warmth of th

there's leslie. here is michael. this is a category 2, it is small, tight, powerful. 105-mile-an-hour winds. good news, won't affect anyone, won't affect land. so with that, our attention turns to leslie. now, right now it's category 1, maximum sustained winds at 75 miles an hour. what's happened is it has sat over the same space, kind of the cold water for the last 18 hours or so. so we have not seen any intensification. so that is the good news. here is the projected path. now, you can see here is bermuda right now, it's about 430 miles south/southeast of bermuda, expected to make the past farther east than earlier thought sunday morning. so here are the impacts. this area east of haley fax cou halifax could seat biggest impacts. but it's a monster storm. winds at 185 miles an hour. and so we could see especially sunday morning, that's when kind of the biggest wind threat will be. we'll have more coming up. >> all right. thank you. >>> it is 13 past the hour. she's a tennis prodigy. but she almost didn't make it to

this is tropical leslie. i'm all right, really. this storm is almost a hurricane, sustained winds 70 miles. >> i can do weather. >> come on over here. >> i was ready to save you. >> i'm ok. leslie, sustained winds 70 miles per hour, almost a hurricane. it's going to miss puerto rico. but the computer models take it up towards the east coast of the united states. the model suggest not what we call in agreement. some are doing loopdy loops in the atlantic. some take the storm towards the new england coast so if you have travel plans in new england north of baltimore towards the tail end of next weekend, pay attention to what happens with leslie. we have the ghost of isaac coming across the southern part of illinois. it's lost tropical characteristics but you can see circulation of what was the storm with heavy rain ahead of it, showers and thunderstorms, virginia, back into ohio, same thing in indiana. eventually this will catch up to us. nothing showing up on the radar now except little showers in pennsylvania but this will probably

moving into the americas, then, we have been talking about tropical storm leslie. leslie made landfall newfoundland this morning and left the islands and the conditions are improving here but leslie will likely impact iceland with heavy rain and rough sea conditions late wednesday. as for north america, then, high pressure system is keeping things dry and settled across the east and we have a cold front here and it is not going to produce heavy rain, instead very windy conditions, so red flag warnings are posted in the northern rockies and the northern half of the plains today. out west monsoonal showers intensifying in the four corners region as well as southern nevada and northwestern mexico, so flash flood warnings are posted here and into the north wet and windy weather in central canada moving towards ontario. temperatures are as follows. denver a sharp drop in temperatures on wednesday, 20 degrees, that's about 15 degrees lower than tuesday and still on the hot side, though, in chicago 31 and 34 degrees in oklahoma city. finally let's go to europe. stormy, we

look at tropical storm leslie as it bears to the north. if you had to get a tropical system, that's the better side to be on. still concerns there with high surf and the strong winds. leslie is such a large storm about 400 miles across. it's been sitting in place for several days. that means it's basically just been churning up the water. it continues to push water towards the coast. for that reason, we do have concerns of rip currents and high surf along the eastern seaboard including ocean city as leslie continues to move up to the north. the biggest impact will be to bermuda, as they get close by, and leslie continues to track up to the north. looks like rip currents will continue to be a concern in ocean city throughout the rest of the week. then hurricane michael. winds putting it at a category two. it's expected to decrease in strength through the next couple of days and no impact to land. we call that a fish storm. looking back to our area. lot of clouds sitting along the coast. everyone else enjoying a lot of sunshine. there may be

leslie is still a big storm and will make its way to canada. this thing has about a 200-mile wide tropical storm windfield. even though it missed us by 140 miles we were still within 60 miles of the tropical storm force winds. the path takes it to the north and east and on tuesday it could still become a minimal hurricane. folks in st. johns will probably see watches and warnings come out later on this evening. here we are almost at the exact peak date of the atlantic hurricane season and we have leslie, michael and the next disturbance. some of the long range computer models don't take the next disturbance anywhere near land. we are only half way through the season. we will see what else mother nature has in store as we head through the rest of september and october. >>> in chicago tonight it is going down to the wire where teachers in the country's third largest school system are threatening to strike at midnight. kevin tibbles is in our chicago bureau tonight following this developing story. >> reporter: tonight parents of children in the na

this is tropical storm leslie. kirk is way out in the north click but this storm, 70 miles per hour, almost a hurricane and just off to the east-northeast of san juan, 300, 400 miles. it looks like it's on a track to head over towards the east coast and for the most part will stay off shore. this is a computer model plot of all the forecast tracks. when you go into the longer range, some of these forecasts take this close to the new england coast next weekend so we will keep an eye on leslie. it will probably become a hurricane over the next 24 hours. we have our own tropical stuff to deal with. this was the remnant low of isaac or ghost of isaac, if you will. you can see it spinning across southern illinois, producing heavy rain, showers and thunderstorms there. here at home it's dry for the time being. strong thunderstorms and heavy rain in ohio but in baltimore, nothing on the radar now and will probably stay dry this morning. if you're doing things outside today, the earlier in the day, the better. it's muggy t
